Iron Chef For Small-Brained Humans (i.e. Women Apparently)

Well, they finally put Rachel Ray on Iron Chef. And Giada de Laurentiis too (as if I really cared -- let's say it all together, food isn't sexy, food isn't sexy, food isn't sexy -- it's food). Chippendale chefs... Hmmm, Bobby Flay? Or maybe Jamie Oliver? (Note: I just spend a few minutes unsuccesfully trying to find an appropriate cheesecake-ish photo of Jamie Oliver). [You just did what??? -ed.]

I agree that part of the attraction, audience-wise, of Ray and de Laurentiis is cheesecake inspisred. I find this mystifying in regards to Ray (it's like finding Oprah or Katie Couric attractive -- shiver). de Laurentiis is more, uh hot(?) and her actual show is all about close up money shots of onions being sliced and garlic sizzling in pans. Ick. She is actually a genuine trained chef, trained at Le Cordon Bleu and later employed at Spago's, for whatever it's worth.

But I actually have a defensive thing for Rachel Ray. I can't stomach her spin-off shows where it's all her personality. But 30 minute meals is pretty good as a beginnner-to-intermediate cooking show, since it's just literally how to prepare entire dishes from start to finish, and those dishes are often pretty good. I've got something like a half-dozen recipes in my personal cookbook which are based on or heavily influenced by her recipes. For what's she worth, cooking-wise, she's pretty good.

No, I'd love to see that. It strikes me as a bit out of character though?
