I'd say Toph is moving toward CG.

Jet is hard to pin down for me; he fights for what he believes is right, even though that involves lies, manipulation, and the slaughter of innocents. Is that a lawful evil, or a chaotic evil?

Part of Toph's thing seems to be learning teamwork as well, which I think implies moving away from chaotic. On the other hand, it's Iroh who's doing the teaching, and he's CG (under my analysis).

As for Jet, it's always difficult to pin down, in D&D alignment terms, the misguided zealot type. I think since he lives apart from society he's more chaotic, since he's trying to establish his own order around his own power, rather than misguidedly enforcing an external structure. But I could see a lawful argument.

I think D&D alignment's biggest weakness tends to be clarifying the lawful/chaotic differences. Consider Hitler, is he LE (totalitarian), or CE (will to power)?

Neato!

Several of those characters were among those I decided were too hard to assign traditional alignments too.

The ones I was considering were: Town of Chin, the Boulder, and Koh the Face-Stealer. I like you descriptions more than any I could have determined.
