"This I Believe" I'm so proud of

I believe in the power of soap to clean away your worries. Now whether you chose bar soap or the liquid kind, it makes no difference. Sweet, soothing, sensual soap will get you through.
At the beginning of the day, when you head into the shower or bath to clean, soap is there. It helps you wash away your worries and clear your mind of cobwebs. It bubbles and lather and gives of it itself. It brings you your first aromas: lavenders, spices, and the standard soap smell which no one can quite peg. Yes, soap is there.
In the middle of the day, when your already dragging your feet and you have just finished some bland meal sans carbs which you don’t even know why you eat other then bathing suit season is coming up soon, soap is there. It washes away the dirt and grime your not even sure how you got on you. It fills your nose with the smells of a clean slate and leaves your hands like a newborns.
At the end of the day, when you come home tired and frustrated, have to mess around with the cable box for hours just to watch the last five minutes of your favorite show while cooking dinner, before cleaning the house- soap is there. It helps you clear away the mess of children, dogs/cats/frogs, and spouses. It is there when you clean your face before finally drifting off into restless sleep.
Yes, soap is there. Always willing to waste away to nothing but a sliver. And still be happy to serve its duty with its brother slivers, which are rolled into some multicultural ball of safety. All so that you may feel better.
Remember when you were little and you were scared of soap? Mud, dirt, sweat, scrapes/cuts, and dried up blood- the common leftovers of a day at play. Maybe there was some sand sticking to your knee or wood chips in your shoes. Remember when you clung to these things like Narcissus to his mirror? But soap came, it found you, no matter where you hid or how much you kicked and screamed. And somehow you were happier once clean and sleepy and ready for bed, though you’d never admit it.
Remember when you were a teenager and you both like you could not be clean enough and hated the laborious grooming ritual? Oil, blemishes, acne, and weird odors become your newfound foes. Remember your first trip to the drugstore for face wash and “acne control” body wash? And you questioned how something as simple as soap had gotten so perverted. But dutifully you found soap, and left for school feeling cool and refreshed and somewhat more self-confident.
And now in adulthood, soap does its job as the devoted friend. It listens when your days are long, it is always where you expect it to be, and is always there to greet you first thing in the morn to pull your mind from rest. Yes, I believe in the power of soap. Don’t you?
