Coversation in Texas
The Alanis Moresette song, 'Ironic' came on to a station I was listening to and it reminded me of this great rant in Texas with an Englishman.
Mick - It's really unbelievable that Americans just don't understand the concept of irony. I, mean, look at that song, 'Ironic.' Most everything in that song refers to things that are just bad luck. The traffic jams, the no smoking signs, meeting a guy that's already married - those are all just bad luck, and they're not even that terribly bad. Even the bad things, the airplane crash and the dying after winning the lottery, are just bad luck. AND that whole rain on your wedding day thing? That's actually GOOD luck. I mean come on. How complicated is this concept? In her entire song she doesn't have a single incident that's actually ironic. *sigh* It just amazes me that Americans don't understand what irony really is.
