It started when Arthur had fallen asleep on top of his work one day. Succumbing to the sleep wasn’t anything new for the point man. He was use to the long hours, but there was only so long his body could go without sleep.

He awoke slowly, realizing he was still supposed to be working as he tried to rub the sleep from his eyes. A piece of paper stuck to Arthur’s cheek as he lifted his head from the table. His brow furrowed as he pulled the paper off his face, and then wiped the back of his hand across his mouth.

That’s when he saw it, a tiny heart drawn on the side of his hand on the arch between his thumb and index finger. Arthur squinted as he looked down at the little red heart on his skin. He glanced around the room, but everyone was busy working and paying him no mind.

Arthur didn’t have any idea as to who had created the pen mark, but his heart felt suddenly lighter because of it. With a small smile gracing his face he went back to his work.

----

A few days later, Arthur was getting ready to leave the warehouse and return to his hotel room. He shrugged on his favorite coat and reached into his pocket to retrieve the keys in order to lock up. His hand wrapped around a small piece of paper instead. Arthur’s heart fluttered slightly as he pulled out a fake tattoo heart. It reminded him of simpler times as a child; he use to love putting a quarter into a coin machine in hopes of getting the coolest tattoo design. He looked at the heart tattoo with fondness before placing it back in his pocket and continuing on his way out.

No one had to know that later that night Arthur took a damp sponge and applied the small tattoo to his right shoulder.

----

Everyday Arthur kept an eye out, trying to figure out who was behind the hearts he was receiving. In the back of his mind he hoped beyond hope for one person in particular, but he tried not to think about whom he wanted it to be. He just hoped that Ariadne wasn’t hiding a little crush on him, the point man saw her as a little sister and he would hate to hurt her in any way.

Regardless that he tried, he still couldn’t figure out who left the hearts. Arthur soon stumbled upon a tiny, red stress ball in his brief case in the shape of a heart. However, there were no clues as to who had gotten into his stuff once again.

Arthur considered himself a man with an eye for details, for the obvious reason that he was the best at his job, yet this remained a mystery to him. When he walked into the warehouse the next day there was a single piece of candy on his desk.

It was a blue candy heart that read, “Be Mine.”

The point man picked up the heart carefully with a smile forming on his lips. There was only one person he knew of that actually cared to remember his favorite color.

----

That night Arthur was relaxing in his hotel room after a long day, lounging on the couch. He was finally free of the constraints of button down shirts and suit jackets. He always opted to go shirtless whenever he was alone. Arthur was clad only in long plaid pajama pants as he watched some mindless drivel on the television in order to rest his brain. There was only so many facts that he could cram into his brain before he just needed a break.

Arthur was slightly startled when he heard a knock at the door. In case it was someone important he turned off the television, that wasn’t something he needed anyone else to know. Eames would have a field day with his choice of relief after a stressful day.

However, it wasn’t Eames he found standing in front of him when he opened the door. Dom stood there in the doorway with a red, plush heart in his hands and a cheesy, hopeful smile gracing his face. Dom had always been one for romantics, no matter how corny it made him look.

The plush heart read, “I love you.”

A smile broke out across Arthur’s lips as he took in the beautiful sight before him, something he had only dreamed about in private.

With glassy eyes Arthur returned the sentiment, “I love you, too.”

After that final admission Dom let himself in to embrace the slender point man, letting the door fall close behind him.

He pulled back a little in order to look at the slightly faded tattoo upon Arthur’s shoulder. Dom smiled softly at the sight, rubbing the pad of his thumb over it gently, before placing a chaste kiss on the tattoo.

Dom had used paper hearts to say what he didn’t have the courage to admit out loud. Now he wouldn’t waste another day not telling his point man how much he loved him.

And whenever they had to be apart, Arthur never slept without that plush heart in his arms.

The End

Also, this was my first Cobb/Arthur, so I hope it was at least a decent first attempt :)
