"And soon the dark of night will fall, summoned by your own hand."

I really don't know what to do anymore.

We (America and the world at large) are sinking ever faster into what seems to be an era of unprecedented corruption, ignorance, demagoguery, and abject blithering idiocy. Reason will not prevail. Justice is beyond reach. And most of the people who are in a position to change this are completely disinclined to do so.

The trouble with citizenry in general is that the people who are the easiest to mobilize tend to be the same people who are easiest to fool. What's more, when things get really desperate, people on all sides of the larger political argument turn away from the problems and delve into their distractions, their bread and circuses. What we're left with is a handful of people trying desperately to halt our destruction, while everybody else either demonizes them or ignores them completely.

What we're left with is greed, apathy, or blind and stupid rage. We are heralding our own doom.

No, I'm not suggesting that hope is lost, nor would I ever suggest such a thing. I believe it is up to each of us to learn facts, demand justice, bring the fight and never say die. And I believe this because it is the absolute truth.

But I'm not succeeding. Not here. Here I am preaching to the choir, and sometimes to no one at all. LiveJournal was never meant to be an instrument for education and change, and I've been stupid to think of it as such.

So I'm not going to write here anymore. I'm going to write and speak only where it is worthwhile to do so, where there is at least the possibility to do some good. I encourage all of you to do the same. In fact I beg you.

I'm not getting rid of my LJ, no. I've logged too many memories here, and I like to read about how you are and what you're doing. And I'm not going to stop writing the lighter and somewhat more amusing things, either. That's what my taco blog is for! All I'm saying is that it is possible to spread one's energies too thinly, and I'd like to direct those energies to narrower and more useful purposes.

So I hope you'll continue to follow my absurdities on TheTacoDiet.blogspot.com, and the occasional post I'll still put up on LJ fromtime to time, and I hope each of you finds a concrete way in which to improve your world. Be happy, be healthy, be strong, and above all, be well.
