Okay, let's do this real quick.
1. Republicans are saying that if we don't extend the Bush tax cuts for large companies and the extremely rich, it will magically hurt the economy somehow. This is a humongous lie. Letting said tax cuts expire will IMMEDIATELY reduce the deficit by anywhere from 25-30%. Don't believe me? Do the math. Or, simply ask yourself why none of the Republicans who are pushing for extended tax cuts have been able to present a clear argument as to why.
2.
escapingatrophy posted an excellent editorial by Archie Levine about "traditional" marriage, and you should read it (click
HERE). This whole Prop 8 thing has once again gotten out of hand. Legalize same-sex marriage, right now. Those who argue that they are trying to preserve "traditional" marriage are lying. Super duper lying. Their collective pants may actually be on fire. Because, as the editorial rightly notes, there is nothing "traditional" about marriage AT ALL. This is an argument about denying 14th Amendment protection to human beings and American citizens because way too many people are homophobes. And anyone arguing to the contrary is a LIAR.
3. Nobody's building a mosque at Ground Zero. But if they were, that would be just fine. Know why? Because our Constitution protects freedom of religion, whether we like it or not. What's more, 9/11 had nothing to do with Islam. It was about foreign policy issues. Political issues. I know this, because this is what the terrorists SAID. Don't get me wrong; I'm not a big fan of ANY organized religion. But we're Americans, and rights are rights. So let's keep things neighborly, shall we? Stop fighting against people who are trying to bridge cultural gaps and extend a hand of frienship. And stop saying that your arguments are based on national security and/or respect for the dead of 9/11. Because that's a lie.
