RTD is brilliant.
Yep. As I've said before, this show is "Scenes We'd Like to See" from the world of fanfic. Someone who can do it better than the original writers has been given open slather, and the results are thrilling.
I know that some people wanted a kiss or for the Doctor to actually say the words but I’m not sure that would have had the same impact.
I agree, it wouldn't. But the other thing is, hasn't the Doctor always reminded you of Stuart/Brian? He's desirable, he offers a sense of adventure nobody else in your world does, and yet he's unattainable on several levels. And Stuart Alan Jones doesn't say "I love you". I mean, my (completely unfounded except for his writing) feeling is that there is a SAJ in RTD's past, and he keeps immortalising him in a form he knows is idealised.
He also had to consider whether he's going to write the Doctor as always pining for Rose in the future, or whether he's going to allow him to connect with another companion. Not that the Doctor has usually had a romantic connection with his companions, but then the demographic for RTD's series has shifted much more adult than for the original. (The original demographic - geeky pubescent boys - was probably bothered about "girl germs", if not actually gay.)
The whole of season 2 lead to Doomsday. Torchwood!
More than that. Torchwood is mentioned at least a couple of times in S1, and "Bad Wolf" runs all the way through both series. I was impressed to blazes with the revelation of the name of the beach. He must have worked that out two years ago. CL couldn't have held an idea in their heads that long, let alone written a plot arc to get them there!
I can't wait for Torchwood to start. I want me some more Captain Jack. (Doesn't everyone?)

I don't think the Doctor will pine for Rose. Ten doesn't do that but he will feel guilty over losing Rose. The Doctor does do guilt especially where Rose is concerned. Have you listened to the commentary for Doomsday? RTD essentially says that the events of Doomsday are the Doctor's fault. The void ship arrives on Earth looking for a time traveller, and well, that would be the Doctor and/or his companions. In effect, the Doctor loses Rose due to his own actions. RTD says that he decided not to put this in the Doomsday script because it would have been too much guilt but he figures that later, the Doctor will come to realize this when he is alone in the Tardis. You think the Time War left the Doctor devasted? How about losing Rose on top of the events of the Time War? I think that's what he's setting us up for in Season 3. Poor Martha. I've heard rumors that Season 3 is set 100 years after Doomsday for the Doctor. So, maybe he's a little better than he was when he met Rose and maybe not. I guess we will have to wait and see.
I'm not, however, prepared for a Doctor that falls in love with every companion he meets. That'd be a cowlippian thing to do and not very RTD :)

Oh, how could I forget the Gamestation reference? DOH!

Completely. A friend at work and I were discussing that this is scifi and that the Bad Wolf references mean that Rose could possibily get back to the Doctor. I think I've also seen this mentioned on lj. I love that RTD left this as a possible 'out' in fanfiction and viewer's minds. If he wants to bring Rose back at some time, he can. I don't expect it but the chance is there.
I can't wait for Torchwood to start. I want me some more Captain Jack. (Doesn't everyone?)
I think I heard that Jack might be in Season 3 (towards the end) as a tie in for Torchwood. That should be interesting.
I'm so addicted to this show, that I've started drafting coworkers for discussion. We won't mention where they are getting the episodes from :)

Absolutely. I mean, have you seen his Casanova? It was like he was saying to CL - No, you idiots, this is how you do an OTP!

But Torchwood is starting well before that, isn't it? God knows where he'll have developed his mythology to by the time he ties them back together.
I'm very fascinated by what I see as the political underpinnings of what he's doing - that "Bad Wolf" is a nebulous concept denoting an unforeseen and terrifyingly malevolent enemy but that "Torchwood" is a completely paranoid response to it (just like the Axis of Evil and the Axis of Idiots), with the Doctor the sole voice of reason in the middle. I loved how he showed Harriet Jones as someone we could all relate to and trust in, and then how "Bad Wolf" took her to paranoia.
BTW, one of my favourite lines this week was Rose's, "15 million Cybermen, easy. But one Doctor - now you're scared."
I've heard rumors that Season 3 is set 100 years after Doomsday for the Doctor.
That's interesting. I haven't been reading up on the background, and nor have I watched the half-hour "confidentials". I tend to be a bit of a show-purist the first time through and only catch up on that stuff later. I'll ask my local Dr Who geek what he's heard.

Please don't! This is a public post.
It's great talking to you guys again, and about a good show.

I saw his Casanova. I put a region 2 DVD drive in my computer just so I could watch it when it became available via Amazon.uk. It premieres on PBS in the US tonight so my flist should be full of posts tomorrow. To be honest, it's very hard to watch because it's emotionally draining. The script is heart breaking and David Tennant's performance is amazing. I came away from that movie completely depressed. It's a wonderful production but not a happy one. You're right, RTD knows how to write an OTP. I never questioned Casanova and Henriette for a minute.
But Torchwood is starting well before that, isn't it? God knows where he'll have developed his mythology to by the time he ties them back together.
I'm not sure how it's going to work out. They mentioned that Jack will have to deal with being brought back to life by Rose. This will most likely happen during Torchwood's season. Maybe RTD knows that many fans feel there is unfinished business between the Doctor and Jack? After all, the Doctor did leave Jack behind with no explanation to Jack.
RTD has said that Rose won't be forgotten in Season 3. Maybe the Doctor will explain to Jack what happened to Rose? Who knows? Oh, speculation is fun!
BTW, one of my favourite lines this week was Rose's, "15 million Cybermen, easy. But one Doctor - now you're scared."
Oh I know. Fav line #2 The Daleks mentioned that Rose's heartrate had accelerated when she noticed the Doctor and Mickey said "Tell me about it". Oh Mickey, I do love you.
Or "Social interaction will cease" Ahh, now RTD can do humor!
