Grimm pt 4
As she came to the opening, she stopped. It was dark, spooky and it smelled like rotting lettuce in there. IF it werent for the fact that they were behind her, she wouldnt have gone in...but they were, and she wasnt about to let them win...taking a large breath, she balled her fists up and stepped in.
Audrey screamed and pointed, shouting, "Tevvy no!" Instinctively, she drove her heels into Zephyr's sides, right in front of his haunches causing him to rear up and bolt forward. Will held on tight and simply muttered, "Aww, crap..." With the force of his size, Zephyr barrelled into the opening, bringing the children with him. Though everyone expected to be crunched together, the inside of the stalk was vast. Easily 50 feet across, you could have driven a school bus through it, if they had buses here. Eerie sounds echoed throughout the vast chamber and large glowing globes of....something...protruded from the walls, giving the strange light. Tevvy turned and looked at the group with something of a triumphant glare. "Well, it looks like you decided to come after all."
Audrey looked around and immediately regretted her decision. "I dont think we should be here."
Summer stood up and brushed the slime off her pants. "Ya think?!? If not for little miss-everyone-has-to-do-what-I-say, we wouldnt be here right now!" Her words came out like barbs that made Audrey blink and squint, shying away as each one hit. Summer suddenly realized she was yelling at someone other than her "object d' Ire" and stopped, "Oh my god, Audrey, Im sorry...Im not yelling at you." Summer turned to Tevvy and Will walked passed them, banging an imaginary bell saying "DING, round two of Chicks who wont shut the hell up!"
As the shouting match began, Audrey quickly began to realize that her first words couldnt be more true. Down the dark recesses of the tunnel, multiple eyes began to glow. Some of them blinked, but most of them began moving, and getting closer. A chorus of cries and howls reverberated across the cellulose walls, causing the irridescent globes to retreat within the walls, making it darker. As the horde moved closer, the sounds of gnashing teeth and metal clanking on metal began to grow more pronounced. Zephyr began to move about in circles stomping his hooves expectantly. Audrey clutched Zephyrs mane and burried her head in it. Will climbed up and pulled out his sword, ready to hack and slash at anything that came within arms reach. Tevvy jumped up and grabbed Wills hand while driving her heels in Zephyrs haunches. Summers pants which were covered in vegtable slime, slid cleanly off of the Destriers fine hair as he lurched forward. Tevvy slapped the haunches causing Zephyr to near take flight!
Summer screamed "NO, dont leave me!" but, her screams only meshed with the sounds of the oncoming monsters and she began to cry. The horse and her friends became a quickly disappearing whit dot down the darkened green tunnel. Sobbing uncontrolabley she sat down cross legged and wept. The thundering of monstrous feet could now be heard as well as felt and there was even a shout from the horde, "I SMELL BABY TEARS!!! YUMMY!"
She grabbed her bag and brought forth the stuffed black cat she carried with her, clutching it to her chest she sobbed as she could see all manner of foul and terrifying thing coming into view. If only someone would save her, she thought...if only...the tears turned to rage and as each one fell from her eyes, it seemed to catch fire and disappear as a whisp of steam.
She clutched the stuffed animal as tight as she could and screamed. Suddenly the stuffed toy lurched forward and in the blink ofan eye an enlarged ethereal primal cat lept from the stuffing within. It was like a ghost tethered by some whisp of spirit. It roared fiercely and slashed at an ogre, cutting it deeply and causing it to scream and run away. With her eyes closed, she heard the battle and realized she was still alive and unharmed.
Will turned around, "Tevvy, where's Summer?! Zephyr, go back!" Will raised his sword and grabbed onto a clutch of his mane, pulling on it. The destrier turned and thundered down the path at an unimagineable speed. Will looked back at Tevvy with a scowl, but said nothing. When they returned to the spot where they left, they saw summer surveying the damage. Bodies strewn about the beanstalk floor. small creatures and insects were already descending to feed. "Holy cow are you okay?" Will slid off the horse and ran to Summer, followed by Audrey. "Yeah, are you okay? We totally thought you were on Zephyr with us."
Stuffing the cat back into her bag she shook her head and wiped her puffy eyes. "No, Im not ok...someone decided it was better to leave me behind so the monsters could get me."
Tevvy crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, "I dont have to be faster than the monsters...just faster than you..." Audreys jaw near hit the floor and Will smirked for only the briefest second before firing back, "You know what, thats ok in the movies, but not when the monsters are real and trying to eat us."
Summer climbed onto Zephyr and waiting for Audrey and Will to get behind her, putting both of them between her and Tevvy. "Zephyr, we'd like to go please." She leaned against his mane and closed her eyes for a moment as Zephyr started to move, then she shot up and turned to face Tevvy, "Dont ever turn your back on me again..."
