Staring at the organic monstrosity before them, the children stood silently in awe of it all.
"It's said that the beanstalk can take you anywhere you want to go in the Grimmlands."
Zephyrs voice had a soothing, dignified quality to it with an english accent. Ever since they'd freed him from the slaver he was their constant companion, and means of transportation. He was always happy to answer any questions he could, though limited answers they might be, he was after all, just a talking horse. Audrey, having grown up in no small measure of privilege was an avid equestrian and had volumes of questions for him. "Does the bridle hurt?" "Do you like jumping?" "What does hay taste like?" "Is it better than alfalfa?" "Do you like wearing a saddle?" And with each and every query, he responded as happily as if it were the first. "I imagine you children would get farther along through the beanstalk than these old hooves can take you..."
Tevvy stared forward and began to move saying, "Right, thanks Zephyr!" The cadre of dwarves working made no notice of the children and simply moved around them. Standing at one of the holes in the stalk, Tevvy turned around, "C'mon you guys, this'll get us home..."
Summer balked and rolled her eyes, "You dont know that...besides, Zephyr cant go in there...and I'm not going anywhere without him." She crossed her arms and tapped a foot. Before Tevvy could utter whatever foul mouthed retort was coming, Audrey chimed in, "Summer's right, we wouldnt even be here if not for Zephyr, I dont want to leave him here." She caressed his shoulder as she looked at Will.
"Uhh...yeah...whatever...look can we just go then, cause if I stand here any longer I'm gonna go inside..."
Zephyr shook his head and mane in a negative fashion, "Children, this simply wont do...your parents and friends are waiting for you, you shouldnt decide to stay in a wicked place simply because you helped an old horse."
Tevvy gave a "WTF?" look and held her hands out in the same fashion. "You guys, this is our chance, home...you know? The mall? School? hot dogs? Your own bed?!"
Tevvy was also from well to do parents. Both of them women, the "Moms" were well known amongst her friends as "the coolest lesbian moms ever". Tevvy was that rare breed of child who shined wherever she went, attracting friends and hangers-on alike. Tevvy had no worries of who would carry her books to class, or who to talk to at lunch, she had her pick. On the weekends her days and nights were filled with gaggles and gangs at the mall or sleep overs where they did make-overs and talks in circles of who was the cutest boy...or girl. Tevvy was atop the highest eschelon of school tiers, she was one of the popular kids. And now...she had no "Plastics" to heed her beck and call...no "Mean Girls" to plague the hopelessly tragic of the school body. No "Heathers" to plot and scheme with...and worst of all...no one to do what she told them to do.
Will was on the other side with his fingers laced like a stirrup, " If you dont get onthe horse she's gonna keep talking..." He bent over to get Audreys foot in his hands. She looked down and smiled, "Thank you sir William, what a gentlemen. You know..."
Will looked up and simply said "Shut it..." causing Audrey to cover her mouth with her hands, curling them open as if testing the waters with a soft "Thank you". Summer followed suit and looked to Will, "Do we have to take her with us?"
Tevvy watched all that happened before her and stopped for a moment before saying a simple phrase..."You know what, FUCK all of you...I'm going home!" She kissed her middle finger and showed it for all to see. Turning on her heel she headed right for the beanstalk entrance...
