Home
Hell is cold.
Vergil pulls Dante closer to him, taking in his warmth as he rests his head in the juncture between his twin’s shoulder and neck. He inhales the familiar scent of his brother, knowing full well it was one he hasn’t smelled in a long while. It had been years, maybe a real eternity and he is free to go home. Home where the sun is. Home where the warmth is.
His lips twinge into something he hasn’t done before. It hurts but the pain is good. He misses it. Vergil presses himself against Dante even more and he knows. He knows what Dante is thinking now as he holds his older brother firmly to him.
“Let’s go home, Verge,” Dante whispers into his brother’s ear, lips pressed against Vergil’s forehead. There is nothing more than Vergil could want.
“…Let’s go home, ‘Te. I want to see the sun again. I want to feel warm…” I want to remember my humanity.
I want to remember our mother’s legacy. Her kindness.
I want to remember my family.
Vergil doesn’t protest when Dante picks him up, an arm underneath the older half-demon’s legs. He wraps his arms around his brother’s neck for stability and notices how frail he is in comparison to his brother’s more sturdy and healthy form. Vergil is a skeleton wrapped in skin and he wonders if it is because of the cold, of Hell or of the lost of his Pride and Humanity.
He closes his eyes, leaning against his brother, breathing in his scent again, letting it wrap around his body like a blanket. Vergil sighs softly.
“Take me home.”
