Determined Gaze
There was just something in that kid's eyes that reminded Will of someone. Sarah. Himself. Anyone who was just green on the battlefield. Someone who stopped being scared and just act. Rather than stuttering like he did a few minutes prior, Will saw those eyes become determined and he grinned inwardly to himself. Yes, this kid was definitely a Soldier, deep down he was. There was no doubt about that.
Letting go of the kid, he watched as the boy fled toward the tower he directed him to go on top of. There was nothing more he could do now except hope that those two Machines, Aliens, whatever they were protected the kid and that Cube. Obviously they would, it was important--that Cube--to them anyway.
What really made him grin wide as he turned back to his men was that those eyes reminded him of Sarah's and he wondered if he survived this if he would see his wife and little girl again. Regardless, it was good to know that there was still a streak of Determination in the younger generations (not that he would ever admit he was really old, per se). It was comforting and Will hefted his weapon on to his shoulder. Determination was what made him and Sarah fall in love in the first place.
Will knew if he wasn't taken by his loving wife, he would try to see how much that determination streak was engraved into that kid's soul. Determination was one of the things he looked into for a lover after all. Soldiers had that affinity for one another. Determination was just the peak of it.
Maybe if there wasn't so much of an age difference, he would try to get to know that kid a bit more (despite him already knowing he would, but not on a real intimate personal level). There was just something alluring in that kid, Sam Witwicky.
It's not every day that you see a kid become a real Man. That in itself was what made Will become more confident. Soldiers were definitely one of a kind in a species that opted to run without thinking, to flee without trying to fight. The best part was that Sam knew what to do and was resolved to do it.
Determination: The Greatest Turn On.
