† Break Fantasies †
Just like chasing a rainbow. A rainbow that he could touch and see physically. He sighed, taking a long drag of his cigarette, watching Riza Hawkeye scold Black Hayate for doing something or other outside.
It was break time and he was actually in the smoking designated area so there was nothing Miss Rulebook could say to him. Times like these, Jean Havoc enjoyed the best, watching her move, imaging more snug clothes on her rather voluptuous body-anything, really-besides the bulky standard military uniform she wore day in, day out. Had he ever seen her in anything besides that and the occasional pantsuit?
Probably not, but a guy could dream.
Too bad she screamed Taken-by-Mustang. Too bad she could never be his. Too bad he had finally started noticing her as a woman just a few days ago. Then again she acted-what was the word? Too manly? Masculine? Something like that; hell, he knew what it was-different from the other women he encountered. It’s not like anything changed much.
Jean just figured out that she was a real, honest-to-goodness woman underneath that tough skin she always wrapped herself in and times like these, Jean wondered if he treated her differently, if he actually had a chance of capturing her into his arms and maybe, just maybe, have a nice night out with Miss Number-One-Sharpshooter.
He smiled around the cigarette, taking another inhale before blowing out a smoke ring, staring at her when she brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear, a soft scowl on her face. She was kneeling besides her dog, petting him and he wondered if he would get petted to if he actually had the damn courage to ask her out as a man rather than an acquaintance or co-worker.
Jean had to wonder if she ever really did have a social life outside the military but that didn’t matter much, he had his fantasies to keep him in bed as he tried to look for other women to love, to care, to hold. Seemed like Miss Blond Perfect-Soldier spoiled him too much for the others and just like the others, Mustang had his claws all around her. Too bad.
Sighing, he plucked off the cigarette and stomped the remnant of the butt against the sole of his boot before moving to take out another stick of tobacco. He still had a good ten minutes before his break was over and had to go back to work. Ten more minutes to fantasize about a rainbow he knew he would never exactly be able to grasp. Pity, too. Jean knew he might be able to give Miss Riza Hawkeye a damn good time.
Fantasies were good and all but having the real thing? Usually priceless until the luster finally wore off but Jean just knew that might not actually happen if he had her in his arms. He wanted her completely and wholly and most of all, Jean thought he could understand her. Working with her all this time did wonders with him getting to know his co-workers and besides, it’s not like Roy Mustang was actually doing anything for her.
Who knows, maybe he would be better than his superior officer in loving that fine damn woman. Who knows. He chuckled lightly, glancing out the open window, noticing that his prey had disappeared. Oh well, there was always next time.
He didn’t exactly expect a tapping on his shoulder. When he turned, he blinked confusedly at the woman he was fantasizing just moments prior. “Hello, Hawkeye, don’t ya see I’m smoking here?” He smiled widely at her, leaning against the wall, noticing she was looking at him intently.
“You were watching me… why?”
“Why not? It ain’t a crime,” he casually tossed back at her, shrugging his shoulders, “Not like I’m trying to curse you or anythin’.”
She shook her head lightly before taking a step forward, “I would appreciate a much more specific reason than that, Havoc.”
“Nice day out, isn’t it? Though would be nice if there was a rainbow in the sky, Hawkeye,” Jean dodged her inquiry as much as he could, as smoothly as possible, but he was no Roy Mustang. Never could be, really. That man was a one of a kind.
“Maybe you just have to look harder then, Lieutenant Havoc.” She nodded at him, not saying anything more, and walked past, chin held high.
Jean watched her walk away, taking his time to enjoy the view of her backside, probably spending a bit too long on her legs but that was ok. He had the right to fantasize anyway. When he looked back at the window, he noticed a slip of paper that he hadn’t seen before. Raising an eyebrow, he took it and laughed out loud.
“1900 hours, Mario’s Cafe.” It was in Miss Nice Legs-Forever Hawkeye’s writing. But she didn’t sign her name. That was ok. He knew who it was from.
Maybe that rainbow ain’t so elusive after all...
