Their swords cut easily through the remaining Heartless around the castle. Like a hot knife through butter. It was almost sickening but at the same time relief for the two swordsmen. The Heartless had stopped spawning too quickly for them to handle, the rebuilding of Radiant Garden was underway and progressed much more quickly than before. And for the first time in a long while, it was snowing.

Snow. That brought a smile to both their lips as they finished the remaining troops of lingering Heartless. It had been too long since the snow had last fallen on their world and everyone was rejoicing it. To Leon, they were being careless. Terribly careless but he didn’t mind. It was good to see the white stuff anyway.

Everything was starting to go back to normal. Well almost everything but for now what they had was enough. More than enough really.

Aerith, Tifa and Yuffie had decided to celebrate the new coming of snow with a party of sorts and decked the entire castle with holiday cheer. Where they manage to find all those decorations, Cloud didn’t know but it made almost everyone smile at the effort they were making. It was uplifting to see the Castle lighted up with multicolor lights that weren’t alarms. He laughed inwardly at Leon’s wry comment of it being better with the alarm lights flashing though he did crack a small smile at the other man.

Cloud knew that the older man was only joking. They’ve been together friends and sparring partners to know each other’s quirks quite well. This was of course discounting Yuffie’s belief that angsting men could only understand each other. Or something of the like. The blond was starting to think maybe the ninja said “Emo.”

Shaking his head, he sliced a lunging Heartless in half, vertically, rotating on the ball of one foot to smack away another one. A grin of battle lust was on his lips, one eye spying what his companion was doing. The other man was graceful and lethal but what else was expected from a Lion? Especially one who he fought on the same side with many times before. Just the way the brunet moved was awe-inspiring and it drove Cloud to be just as good, if not better as the Restoration Leader.

Restoration Leader. That brought another chuckle to Cloud’s mouth. They had to practically force Leon to be their leader at least officially. He was already their unofficial leader before. He just had that spark in him that they all knew he was going to be perfect for the job.

Just as another Heartless jumped at him, Cloud didn’t blink an eye as a large fireball incinerated it. Nodding at the other man, he moved to take down another Heartless that launched itself at Leon’s blind spot, impaling it with his sword before decapitating it. Thankfully, Heartless didn’t bleed blood. That didn’t mean he wasn’t dirty with grime and sweat. It could be worse, he supposed. It could be leftover snot from Hades’s hair.

It didn’t take them long to finish clearing out their section. It never did anymore and it was due to that Keyblader, Sora. And for that they were both thankful, that little runt actually managed to save their home world. Not that they (Leon and Cloud) would really voice that out loud. Aerith, Yuffie, Cid and pretty much everyone else in Radiant Garden were proclaiming it enough for them. No need to make that kid’s ego get any bigger.

His hair alone held most of that ego already, Cloud doubted he wanted to see Sora in an afro. Snickering out loud, he merely said the Keyblader’s name to Leon and pointed to his hair. The brunet understood. They didn’t need any real vocal communication. They were just that much in sync though at times, Cloud didn’t know what the other man really thought of him. Not that it should matter as long as the blond pulled his own weight.

Which he did. He would never settle for anything else. Cloud was just that prideful.

Done with the fighting, they both walked side by side to the castle entrance. Their work was done and there was nothing else to do but to try and avoid Yuffie, Tifa and Aerith as well as the YuRiPa faeries to get out of helping them decorate. Leon and Cloud weren’t the type to be very aesthetic-orientated. As long as things did what they were intended to do, how it looked didn’t matter unless it was vital to the design. It must be a female thing, they both agreed when the girls tried to get them to help earlier.

Leon suddenly stopped underneath one of the archways that led to the castle and Cloud turned to look at him, eyebrow raised in interest. It was unusual for Leon to just stop all of sudden; usually it meant something was amiss but what? Opening his mouth to ask, Leon made him pause with a hard look and glanced up. Cloud’s eyes followed the brunet’s and his lips curled into a smirk.

Mistletoe. How fun.

Smirking widely, he perked an eyebrow at the older man, not bothering to speak. It just wasn’t their way of communicating. They relied more on body language than actual speech, after all. Cloud’s question was sly and clear and Leon returned the stare with an even one of his own.

Rolling his eyes, Cloud shrugged and stepped forward when the other man gripped his arm and pulled the blond into his arms. Leon’s lips were slightly upturned. Cloud tasted fire spiced lips and chuckled inside, pressing himself closer to the brunet. It was just a holiday kiss after all. Didn’t make it mean anything, at least, that was what Cloud thought until Leon pried his lips open and delved his tongue inside Cloud’s mouth.

Maybe… it did mean something.

Leon stepped back soon after and briskly walked toward the entrance. Cloud blinked for a moment then rushed after the man, falling in step besides him, not saying anything. There was no need.

Didn’t mean he wasn’t confused as hell.

One day, he’ll finally ask the brunet what their relationship was. That is when they finally decided that speech was a necessary part of their comradely.
