Can anyone show me something, anything, that can give me hope that America and the American people are worth believing in? That I can have faith in them? Everywhere I look in the news around me I see a distressing and mindnumbing lack of openmindedness, tolerance, or hell, just plain reason. A commentary piece I recently read says that a majority of teens believe that news media shouldn't publish without gov't approval, and that 1 in 5 believe that people shouldn't be permitted to express unpopular views! What is this?? I wish the author had cited the survey, so I could look it up, because I don't want to believe it. In the last several years, people who disagree with the president, or speak against him, have been called unpatriotic or worse; people who disagree with the war in Iraq have similar things said about them. Is this all from 9/11? If it is, or even if it's "merely" an increase since 9/11... then the terrorists may have won. They may very well have destroyed us, not physically, but in every other way that matters.
