Adventures in Language Learning

My Russian study package hasn't arrived yet.

But I discovered duolingo and have been busy there for the past week. It isn't perfect, but it is free of cost and advertisements.
The choice of languages for German-speaking learners is small but I can always use English as the "known" language. In fact, I have done that. For the past six days I have been brushing up on my French (one of the courses offered in German) and my Norwegian (in English, which is a pity because it is much closer to German). My guess is that the French lessons will let me recapture most of what I learned in school and have forgotten since; I took French for four years back in the late 70s. I will focus on that first and then proceed in Norwegian, where my knowledge is much more basic. But I'll throw in a little Norwegian every other day until I'm through with French. After that, I'll do the daily exercise in Norwegian and some French repetition as often as I feel like it.

Yeah, I know. My initial plan was to (re-)learn Russian ...

I'll fit that in when the time is right.
