Fly-by post

Thank you to everyone who thought of me or wrote messages, cards or emails during the past weeks. I appreciate it all a lot, even if I haven't been able to answer individually.

Normal life is catching up with us right now: there's a family holiday trip coming up on Saturday. Two weeks in Denmark, at the North Sea coast, whee! I am looking forward to lots of beaches and books and nothing much else.

My holiday reading list (as planned, prone to change!):

Speshul holiday reading, bought just for this trip (bringing my Shelf of Shame up to 190 unread books, eep!):
- County Wives - Rebecca Shaw
- Country Passions - Rebecca Shaw
- Country Lovers - Rebecca Shaw
- One Hot Country Summer - Rebecca Shaw

Books I really, really want to read:
- Das zweite Königreich - Rebecca Gablé
- Der König der purpurnen Stadt - Rebecca Gablé
- Von Ratlosen und Löwenherzen - Rebecca Gablé (got this only yesterday, a belated birthday gift from a local friend, yay!)

Books fitting for this months' motto of the bookswapping site ("Books that have a title containing a person's or place's name"):
- Aunt Dimity and the Duke - Nancy Atherton
- Aunt Dimity's Good Deed - Nancy Atherton
- Artemis Fowl - Eoin Colfer
- Round Ireland with a Fridge - Tony Hawks
- Break no Bones - Kathy Reichs (I decided nicknames count as well)

Books I should take along:
- Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas - James Patterson (fits this months' motto AND is a book on loan that has been sitting on my shelf for ages)
& the two books I already started reading and have not looked into for weeks:
- Ireland - Frank Delaney
- The Stars' Tennis Balls - Stephen Fry
But then, those two books take up full packing space for half a book of reading each, so I might leave them for another couple of weeks.

I doubt I'll get all those books to fit into the car, alas.

I'll also load another audio book (or two) on my walkman, for car trips and times when I want to close my eyes for a bit. I recently got "Die Brücken der Freiheit" by Ken Follett, which will do nicely, I think.

And now I have to go and start assembling/packing the less important stuff - clothes, kitchen stuff (we have rented a cottage), beach & fishing gear, bed linen, towels, ...

pageturning, shelf of shame, family
