List 5 reasons you are a dork. And make them good reasons. Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud of how big a dork you are!
1. I can spend hours debating the finer points of mid-fourteenth century clothing. You wouldn't believe the arguments that we re-enactment geeks get into over the placement of a seam line!
2. I can perform the whole of the Rocky Horror Picture Show by myself. Would you like the film or the theatre version? The RHPS is the only reason for why I would want to be a man (I'm quite content with being a woman), so I could play Frank! (Though a woman playing a crossdressing man might be interesting?!?)
3. I would rather buy books (or pretty old clothes, or shoes for my dolls, etc.) than food. As they say; books are food for the soul. So only my body is starved... ^_~
4. I don't go outside unless I'm covered completely by a nice layer of black clothing and a generous amount of my good old friend sunscreen factor 60. (A parasol doesn't hurt either!) The same thing applies even if it's too hot to breathe. (Just ask my Australian friends and acquaintances!)
5. I once won a little 'geekier-than-thou'-contest between some really geeky male friends and myself. I won because I knew more words in Klingon than the others... (Though they'll probably say I was disqualified for being a girl... It's not easy being a girl-geek...)
Hmm, I can definitely think of a few more!
I think the word geek is so much better than dork, though. Dork has such negative connotations to me, but I suppose that is different to everyone. But to prove that I am a real dork/geek, I looked the word dork up in Longman Contemporary English;
Dork: AmE informal; someone who you think is stupid, because they behave strangely or wear strange clothes.
If we substitute the word stupid with silly, I'd probably like that definition more!
Also:
Geek: slang especially AmE; someone who is boring and wears clothes that are unfashionable.
Well, I'm unfashionable (unless I suddenly find myself in some long-forgotten century) and proud of it, but I wouldn't say that I'm boring and neither are my geeky friends! (But to really unintelligent people we might be boring! ^_~)
How big a geek/dork are you?
