Canonverse || Laurence/Tharkay/Granby || Tharkay had had the dubious pleasure of watching Laurence and Granby being blissfully in love for several weeks now. It had become a grim catalog of watching their hands touch as they sat together at the morning fire, of the hot glances Laurence would shoot Granby at midday, and Granby then fumbling whatever he was holding, face heating and eyes darkening. Then there was Granby falling back in the marketplace, showing up later with an enameled black dragon, a delicate cloisonné Imperial that he pressed on Laurence gruffly, blushing before he hurried off to check the water casks again, and the soft, delighted face Laurence had made. Add to that the way they found each other instinctively in battle, and the soft cries Tharkay listened to some sleepless nights when the wind blew the wrong way, and how Laurence's formal expression would give way to an enormous grin as Granby rambled and gestured expansively.

First, I must explain what exactly I am recommending to you. Temeraire is a work of historical fiction centering around the Napoleonic Wars with the slightest of changes. Instead of our air force, they have dragons. Think Master and Commander crossed with clever dragons that think and adapt and learn and love their captains helplessly. It's a brilliant series, and the only things that add to its brilliance are the fantastic set of main characters. We have William Laurence, former captain in the Royal Navy, who was unwittingly thrust into the Aerial Corps when a freshly hatched dragon chose him. There's Granby, Laurence's second-in-command who originally abhorred him but quickly became something of a best friend. And then we have my favorite, Tharkay, a guide hired in Istanbul to get them safely through the wilds. And then there's this, perfectly written, perfectly characterized porn between the three of them. I was in heaven when I found this. Heaven, I tell you.
