Was it a great year? Not really. But it did get progressively better in August when I landed my teaching gig. Thanks to that, I might finally be taking my geek trip to Boston and Princeton. (Gee, why those two places? I do WONDER.)
Anyway, here's what I was interested in this year. I am putting stuff behind a cut because it's probably pic/video filled, but I do guarantee some of it will be entertaining. At least in relation to my icon. *points*
Television:
Honorable, but you sort of piss me off, mention:
Bones:
Oh, Brennan. Don't cry! "The Doctor in the Photo" episode basically saved the first half of season six of Bones and my love for it. We've always known that Brennan was flawed and keeping stuff in, but this episode is so perfect and shows of all of that. It's essentially a character study and shows Brennan's perception of the people and stuff going on in her life. Anyway, let's hope the second half of season six is better than the first.
3. House
I still love this show (it is so much better than last year) but it's mostly because of House/Cuddy. While I don't always agree with how they write them, (Cuddy was married. Wtf?) it still entertains me every Monday night.
2. Castle
How cute are Castle and Beckett? This show is highly entertaining and it has consistently good episodes. Yeah, the writing isn't always the best on the planet but this is a show that hasn't let me down yet. There has been some heartache. (Season 2 finale, I am looking at you) But I love this show and can' t wait for next week's "Nikki Heat" episode.
1. Rizzoli & Isles
Where do I start? Where do I even begin? I FREAKING LOVE THIS SHOW. SO MUCH. Angie Harmon is fierce as hell as Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander's portrayal of Maura Isles is a little bit off of center, but brilliant. Actually, Isles reminds me of old school Brennan from Bones but....more endearing? And Temperance Brennan is pretty much one of my favorite female characters. Like Bones, Rizzoli & Isles is based on a series of books by Tess Gerritsen. While not award winning writing, I do find it entertaining. The books...and sometimes the show. What draws me to this is the relationship between Rizzoli & Isles. This is my first slash pairing I have EVER liked (being a hetero woman) but they are SO cute together.
Even cooler? They are friends in real life. And I find that badass. Look! They even shoe shop together:
*fangirl scream* Anyway, it's another freaking 6-7 months till this show is back on the air because it is a summer series on TNT. (ZOMG, LONGEST HIATUS EVARRRRR) I am on pins and needles waiting though.
Movies:
3. Repo Men
You might be thinking, "What?!" But I really enjoyed this movie. It's premise is a little weird since they repo organs that people can't pay for. Yeah, it's brutal and it is all the way messed up. But it takes you on a bit of a mind trip and leaves you guessing until the end. I love that style of movie, the one that plays with my sense of reality.
2.Despicable Me
I know everyone was losing their stuff over Toy Story 3 and I agree, that was a good movie. But Despicable Me made me laugh a lot. And the story was really cute. Plus it spawned the above gif, which is pretty priceless. Anyway, I am a sucker for cartoons and I just love this one.
1. Inception
I know everyone and their mom raves about this movie but it is really THAT good. It makes you think and takes your mind on the journey. I probably like it a lot too because it is a Christopher Nolan film and he also wrote another one of my favorite psychological thrillers, "Memento." (Sorry, GTFO any Batman movie) The music is brilliant. The premise is brilliant. It's pretty flawless, as far as movies go.
Angie Harmon thanks you for your time:
