A few weeks ago Everett and I were went to a movie, and we saw a preview for The Ringer. In case you haven't heard, here's the basic movie premise:
"The Ringer" is a comedy about a man who poses as mentally disabled in order to fraudulently enter the Special Olympics.
The trailer made the movie look distasteful. I remember commenting that producers in hollywood would back any piece of shit as long as it appeals to the MTV crowd (remember Jackass the movie, Dukes of Hazard, not to mention the entire line of Jackass/Steve-o/Viva La Bam MTV shows).
I may be ashamed to admit that I actually watched The Ringer... but I'm not ashamed to admit I actually LIKED the movie. I wondered why the Special Olympics would support the creation of a movie that made fun of their members. However, The Ringer turns out to be a touching story. Hell, Roger Ebert even admitted he liked the movie.
The Ringer - victim of the worst marketing campaign ever. A touching movie ruined by the guys who did marketing for Jackass.
