Wincing, I stare as the life begins to seep out of the gapping wound, staining her blouse before sliding down, pooling around her fragile body.
I’ve watched him grow into a man and every hurdle that’s brought him pain I’ve felt like I was on fire, again. His tears became my own, his triumphs my smiles. It’s what every mother experiences, except I’m not like every mother.
From the moment this little blonde came into their lives, rescuing his brother, the two have been connected. My little boy finally found an equal and now she’s being ripped out of his grasp. One more strike against the sins brought on by my choices.
Steeling my nerves I reach out, slipping my own corporeal hand through Dean’s. His face tightens and that intense gaze is directed up at me. There will be consequences to this action, consequences much graver than ever before. Closing my eyes my lips move in a quiet chant before I lean over and gently blow on the wound.
Instantly, the blood ceases to seep, the wound churns and shifts melding the skin as one. His smile is the final image I see before I’m yanked into the flame.
