Ok. I bought FFX for my sister long ago. I played it and found it to be a pretty good RPG, but never beat it. Julie bought the sequel, FFX2, for me for Christmas. Naturally, I needed to go out and buy FFX so I could see what necessitated the sequel. I remembered Tidus was a Dream of the Fayth and that he learned he would disappear after Yu Yevon was destroyed and so on.
If you have no clue what I just said, go buy a Playstation 2 and Final Fantasy X. You won't regret it. Although you may regret reading the spoiler I just mentioned. Oh well.
So I finally spent 45 hours (actual hours, yes) replaying the whole story from start to finish. I sort of cheated by using my already highly leveled characters from two years ago to win the game, but used a new game to redo the story. I found myself thinking that this was probably the finest game I'd ever played. It truly was a type of evolution over FF7 and FF8. You don't have the materia whores and sort of "say what?" story line of FF7, nor is there the gigantic hugeness of FF8. It was a good balance between playability and story I felt.
Incidentally, I can't find FF9 anywhere? Is it good? Bad? I want.
In each of the three I mentioned, the main character is not who he thinks he is. Cloud was (I think) some kind of clone who thought he was Cloud? Squall was an orphan from an orphanage, surrounded by childhood friends without knowing it. Tidus was literally someone else's dream brought to life to end a nightmare. Good stuff.
And by the way, why was it Yu Yevon was so fscking easy to beat? I think Tidus happened to have a blade with poisonstrike on it. Yu Yevon, the greatest evil in that game's universe, got poisoned. So he started casting cure spells on himself. So I cast reflect on him, bouncing all of his cure spells to my guys. LOL. Choke on it, sucker.
Then comes along FFX2. It has this sort of 1970's funk music or something to it, and a sort of Charlie's Angels theme or something. Dress-spheres? Ok. Yuna's the main character? No objection to having to pilot a winsome girl in hotpants around for the duration of this game, to be sure. But I think I sort of love it. I haven't beat it yet so don't spoil it for me. Apparently it has several different endings? And you have to get 100% to get the 'best ending.' Well, I'm not even close. I can't figure out what any of the clues in the game really mean at the end. Can't wait to find out.
When I first put FFX2 in, and I saw Yuna as some kind of singer/dancer, I really thought my soul was being sucked through my left eyeball. I thought, What is this, Dance Dance Fantasy? And then Rikku and some other woman were attacking Yuna? WTF? Fortunately my soul was safe and secure in my pineal gland as the game turned out quite nice.
And continuing, anyone played Kingdom Hearts? I rather liked it, but I don't know that I like the mixing/matching going on. I left that Sqall fucker hooked up with that Rinoa woman. Now he's moaning and crying in some town floating in space. And Cloud went from being some wierd guy with spiky hair to being some kind of complete badass. Although I'm 109% sure that being happy to see Aeris alive makes me a complete ubernerd. Where's Tifa though? If you see
this I believe you will agree that Kingdom Hearts could have used some Tifa.
