Luke Snyder is tired. He has been in meetings all day with Damian Grimaldi. All Luke wants to do is go home to his apartment and crash in bed, preferably with his lover, Noah Mayer. However, Luke knows that this is not going to happen.
For the past week Luke has come home to an empty apartment. Noah has been staying with Dusty Donovan ever since they had had that huge fight. Luke turns the key in the lock to the apartment as he remembers that day a week ago.
Noah was standing ten feet from the love of his life and at that moment even ten feet was too close. He was so angry at Luke that he could spit. He can’t believe that Luke would do something so stupid and impulsive to jeopardize their relationship.
“Noah can’t we just talk about this? How many times do I have to say I am sorry for what I did?” Luke pleads, arms outstretched.
“Luke I am done talking about the situation. You knew how I felt about getting your father involved in our battles. You knew and went to him anyways. Now thanks to him I don’t have a Senior Advisor. So we can’t talk about this anymore because I can’t even stand to be near you right now.” Noah spits out the words as if they were sour milk.
With that Noah shoves past Luke and leaves the apartment. Luke just stands motionless in the kitchen. Only when the door slams does he cringe out of shock from the sound. After Noah storms out of the apartment, Luke lets out the breath he didn’t know he was holding. His body is suddenly unable to hold its own. He leans on the counter for support. Noah is the love of his life and Luke may have just ruined that for good. Why did he have to go to Damian about the whole Mason issue?
Luke tosses his keys into a tiny porcelain dish on a nightstand by the door. He shrugs out of his coat and strides to the closet and hangs it up. With a sigh Luke enters the kitchen. He glances at the answering machine as he grabs a bottle of water out of the fridge. There is a flashing 2 on the machine. Luke opens the bottle, presses ‘PLAY’, and puts the bottle to his lips as the machine voice kicks on.
“You have two new messages. First new message from Mom, received at 5:45 pm. Hey Luke, baby, thought you would be done with work by now. Well call me back as soon as you get this. I have something important to tell you. You better not ignore me again. I’m really worried about you. End of first message. Second message from 555-5875, received at 6pm. Hey Noah this is Mason. I just thought you might want the copy of your film. Call me back when you get this. I’m sorry for all the problems I caused between you and Luke. Luke if you are listening, I never meant to hurt you. Okay please call me back, laters. End of second message. Press pound for more options.”
Luke sighs before picking up the phone, intent on calling his mother. Halfway through her number he changes his mind and puts the phone back in its cradle. He puts the water bottle down on the counter and leans his upper body on it as he rubs his face wearily.
He sighs and walks back to the master bedroom. After all he had intended on returning home and crashing on his bed. In the bedroom Luke flips on the light and prepares for bed. He is asleep the minute his head hits the pillow.
The next morning as the sun’s rays peek in through the curtain, Luke stretches and yawns awake. All of a sudden there is the sound of a song emanating from the front of the apartment. Luke sits up and scrunches up his face in confusion.
“Did he leave the stereo on last night? Did he even turn it on?” Luke thinks hard.
Luke sighs and crawls out of bed. He doesn’t care that he is only wearing a pair of boxers or that his hair is every which way from being slept on. All Luke cares about is his morning cup of coffee. As he gets closer to the kitchen he realizes that the air is filled with the smell of a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Upon entering the kitchen Luke realizes there is someone else already standing there. Luke sees the other slender, dark haired man, but he doesn’t believe his eyes. As second nature Luke rubs his eyes hoping that the figure in front of him is just a figment of his imagination.
“Noah?” Luke says questioningly.
“Luke! I didn’t hear you come in.” Noah says with a smile as he hands Luke a cup of coffee
“What are you doing here?” Luke demands as he grabs the cup of coffee.
“I live here, remember?” Noah responds as he strides closer to the love of his life.
“You stormed out though,” Luke objects.
“Let’s not talk about this right now okay?” Noah says with a smile as he puts Luke’s coffee on the table, leads him out of the kitchen into the living room.
Once in the living room Noah wordlessly grabs the stereo remote and turns up the volume. The words of REO Speedwagon blare from the speakers. Luke gives a little grin as he recognizes the song. Noah grins then starts to sing along.
“And I meant. Every word I said. When I said that I love you I meant that I love you forever.” Noah sings badly.
Luke groans and grabs Noah close to him. The two men begin to dance. Luke wraps his arms around Noah’s neck and rests his head on Noah’s shoulder. Noah’s arms snake their way around Luke’s waist. The two men dance like they are the only two people on Earth. They feel closer than they have felt in months.
And I’m gonna keep on lovin you
Cause it's the only thing I wanna do
I don't wanna sleep
I just wanna keep on lovin you
