Aspasia was trying very hard to lock down on her emotions. Charlotte was getting too skilled, too quickly, at reading past the surface, calling up on the ties of the blood. If she wasn’t careful to guard against that, there would be no way she’d be able to leave this place and make it to the battle without either her daughter or both Charlotte and Jack close behind.
“HQ this is Major Lafayette, CSDF is approaching LZ please Advise.” She hears a squak coming from Justin’s equipment in the distance. The hold time was drawing short. In minutes, if that long, the battle would be engaged. In the span of the next hour, the Gangrel would either recover Exodus or the clan would lose one of their best known. The presence of so many thread-benders would either make of things a spectacular success or a disaster of historical proportions.
Raven would be in the mix. The rest of his family would do almost anything to protect him and their sire. She’d have to trust in that. Everyone in their place, staying on task. She would do far more good here. Divide the resources, the people properly, so that if fate could be stymied, they’d have the best chance at doing so.
The radio chatters up, it’s Justin Maxwell at the HQ “Team Leaders this is Command, “She Wolf” has given you the green light. Repeat you are green light.”
It’s time then.
Moirae, shelter Raven in your hands. Grant that he does recover Exodus.
The Amazon was making use of the shadows to hide from any attackers. But the explosion from behind defeated that purpose. Damaged the communications system just when it was most needed.
Her enemy was smart. She would have done the same thing.
This only served to convince her further. This group of brood, collectively, were not as enemies of the past. The one now leading them was a masterful, practical leader. Strike where the blows do the most surgical damage.
Still it only made the battlefield even. Her enemies were like wise illuminated. A group. She didn’t bother to get the exact count. The blood in her veins surged as Charlotte, behind her and to the left flank - patrolling that area of the perimeter, engaged in combat. Flashes of light to the distant right, visible out of the corner of her eye, told Aspasia that Jack was likewise engaged.
And her beast stirred. Cool and hungry, Aspasia assessed the array of targets before her, moving with the speed of Kshatriyas towards the first, as her hands became clawed. Not for this group would she use Hisa’s katana or Dominon’s gift. They weren’t worthy.
But, they would do. Die and sate her need to get vengeance for a time. Few people could have pulled Aspasia away from her pursuit of Hisa’s killers, the safety of Exodus and Raven - concern for their safety would override her oath.
She doesn’t think, the actions flowing naturally, one into the next as Aspasia closes in the space between herself and the communications set-up. These foot solders have to be taken care of before she can head toward the main battle. And for the span of a few moments time, she is not a vampire or woman but a living weapon.
This is what Aspasia has trained for over the length of her existence. Still, she has to alter steps and patterns, compensating for the lack of a partner at her back.
Eoin, this would be easier were you here. But, your sire will be recovered. He will be in this world when you wake again.
She hears and sees Charlotte and Jack moving in the same fashion as she does, a tactical withdrawal to better defend Justin and his equipment - the lifeline of communication between the different groups.
The Amazon pulls her claws out of one of the gunmen and yells back to the Invictus. “The sooner you get those communications up, the happier I will be.”
The man’s voice calls out over the sounds of battle. “Yup, working on it!!”
Jack uses the magics of his covenant, dark miracles as spears of light perforate a half dozen of these gunners coming up the stairs before he pulls back to protect Justin.
“A couple more seconds! Comms should be up in a couple more seconds!!” Justin yells.
Charlotte claws off one atttackers face, causing him to tear off screaming, clutching his blinded eyes. Aspasia is distracted by the noise and ferocity that pounds through her veins, the echo from her feral daughter.
A warrior, yes. And more like me in the passions of combat than the rest of my brood.
Pride.
Suddenly a bullet punches through Aspasia’s shoulder and she growls, taking cover behind a wall.
* Your fault, you lost focus, Amazon. *
Jack Spade looks over at her and then outside. “Snipers….they got snipers.”
Charlotte looks over to Aspasia, as if waiting for advice when another round punches through the wall and slams into Charlotte. Aspasia looks annoyed. The blood sympathy pings along her skin.
The last time she had felt such ghost pains had been in Milwaukee. St.Jimmy when he was being staked.
Hisa.
Being killed.
*This group would kill Charlotte. They want to do so. Take another from you.
You couldn’t help Hisa.
Jessica doesn’t want your help.
Two daughters lost.
Here you will lose a third. Why do you not act?*
“THAT’S IT!!!” Aspasia growls and bolts out the door, heedless of anything Jack or Charlotte may be doing behind her. And her beast makes demands and she embraces them. This one who has hurt her childe - this one she will bleed and kill.
The Amazon, moving with speed, leaps toward the rooftop while shifting into bat form, and flies to where this “sniper” is. Shifting back into human, she straddles the prone man, letting the full strength of her blood flare. There is no compassion or mercy in her soul as she bares fangs, crouching down, to grab a hold of the back of his head, yanking it up and to the side. Hungry and reveling in the fury of her darker nature, first the Amazon drives her fangs into his neck, drinking deeply to replenish the blood just spent. This takes only seconds, then Aspasia cracks his skull against the concrete with a solid strike.
Caught in that moment, she revels in the bloodlust and the sense of accomplishment. He tried to hurt her child. He has paid for that presumption with his life. And his blood was good. Spice and vinegar on her tongue. She hopes that Charlotte can feel this. Know her mother has taken out the threat.
Good. Yes. I think our part in this is done. I could go now. Reach the ritual in time to help.
*To Kill again. Drink again. *
Find…..
She pauses there, viewing the building and the surrounding area from this dead man’s location. She sees the all-clear sign from across the distance.
Charlotte.
I need to see to my daughter first. The rest of the world and this night can wait.
Then, Aspasia makes her way back to join the others, and strides toward Justin at the Comms desk. Justin is talking to someone while looking at a slightly burned GPS locator.
“Yeah sorry about that, had a slight problem here, affirmative, the mark is still in the building.”
Jack Spade and Charlotte are standing behind Justin and Thomas Lynch. All of them are looking at the Invictus expectantly. Aspasia’s eyes at first are only for her daughter, trying to gauge what harm has been inflicted on her. Then, she takes in Jack, though she was confident he would be unharmed.
Finally, Aspasia speaks up, addressing Justin. “Do they have Exodus yet?”
*And there is the truth of it. The reason you are here, and why you took part Amazon.
Exodus. To see that Raven did not lose his sire. To honor the fact that the Angel will be the father of your daughter.
And all this time, you didn’t allow yourself to think on how much easier things might be if the group had failed instead.*
Then, Dominion’s voice comes across the speakers. “We got him, he’s okay we’re en route to the helicopter and getting the hell out of dodge.”
“That’s is the best plan I have heard in the last few nights.” Aspasia comments softly.
