I tried reading Golden Compass when I was twelve or something, decided it was crap, and gave up. I may have to try again now, though.

It took me a bit of time to warm up to Lyra, but once I did I just fell completely in love with all of it. I think it would have been a bit over my head when I was twelve, but I'm not sure...

Yeah, this was a written-in-an-hour fic written Just For Fun. And turning Lauhakasi into a belligerent horse-squirrel instead of a vicious ambitious sword. And expressing my opinion that Raw is not a lion at heart, but an elephant. Admit it, it totally makes sense. His heart is huge, gentle most of the time until it has a STAMPEDE OF PROTECTIVE FURY, and he remembers stuff and is scared of mice and so forth.

I may have possibly put too much thought into that.
