Kotetsushin Jeeg. I must say, this is probably the best Nagai "classic" series on TV in a while.
The comedy elements don't feel forced as they were in
Mazinkaiser (which suffered terribly from them, since the central episodes were a string of parodies) and actually work, the action and choreographies are good, and the artwork is always extremely consistent for a show meant for TV release (my only complaint regards the CG for Kenji's cycle, Raikoba, in the first few episodes).
Queen Himika and her returning Haniwa Genjin are the creepy bunch they used to be in the old days, given updated designs (Mimashi for one is much more of a monster, stooped and misshapen, Himika herself is visually aggressive, and after fifty years she opted for a skimpier wardrobe).
Kenji-kun is a brash teenager in the tradition of good ol' Koji Kabuto with a small dose of Ataru thrown in the mix, which actually makes him more likeable; Jeeg v. 2.0 isn't bad at all (the new bazooka part - now that's a boom stick, Ash).
Of course I could go about this in additional detail, but really --
It's pure, unadulterated hotblood. Dig it.
And whenever he's onscreen as either himself or the original Jeeg (first in a flashback, then in actual fighting), Hiroshi steals the scene.
