Also a general comment here for anyone who wants to plot draft-related things - just Shikamaru is going, out of my two. He'll be doing his ninja strategist thing most of the time, I'm betting! Plus shadows when shifters aren't around. Because underground tunnels = endless shadows which also = win.

Besides that, I may be using this draft to kick off a mini-personal-crisis for him towards the end of it. Taking volunteers if anyone wants to be a pain in the ass/stressor?

This is more related to your other character, really, and I will probably have Nami hit Shikamaru up during this (though I'm not sure what about yet, it might just be casual conversation) BUT:

if Brook is not going, would he be willing to keep an eye on Law's ship when Nami gets drafted?

Tell me moar! *chinhands* I've read a little bit of Naruto, including Shikamaru's early appearances, but I don't know if he gained or changed his abilities since then. (I'm assuming so, since this is a shonen series we're talking about...)

Yup! Better yet, it's a shonen series where unlike some of the other side characters, Shikamaru actually gets some screentime every once and while, and yes, power-ups

Ooooh, this has promise! Pao-lin can already take down airborne or long-distance enemies with her lightning, but if the two could arrange things such that Pao-lin's lightning could be used to augment Shikamaru's own abilities...we will definitely have to see how this could work out!

Will Shikamaru be tagging TP guys or is he just all like w/e about it? Pao-lin's definitely going to be tagging them when she can get the chance, and although her powers are potentially lethal without the power cap (in my headcanon at least) she's going to avoid that sort of thing as much as possible.

He's a whatever-works-at-the-time kind of guy. Tagging them will probably save him energy, but since you can only tag 20 people before you need to recharge the device, if they're too far to do that or in the middle of a fight, he wouldn't want to lose ground by turning around every time he needs a recharge.

(Also your headcanon makes sense - lightning is pretty dangerous and she has a lot of it.)

That makes sense. Pao-lin's going to want to tag everyone at first, but will quickly realize that 1) there's just way too many to deal with before running out of charges 2) the fighting will get pretty intense to worry about that sort of thing, and 3) she'll be wielding her dragon staff which is going to require both of her hands. She likely knows ways of knocking out or non-lethally disabling her opponents, and she could probably even use her lightning to fry up some Third Party wings a little. mmmm barbecue wings

No problem! And that's definitely a reasonable fear, ffff.

And I think maybe both? Teaming up with short-range fighters offers a different strategy set (and more tagging opportunities for us), but I can see them being like... a first wave? Ambush as many TPs as you can and clear a path for everyone else before joining up with the others when they come in, if that makes sense.

He couldn't blame her for wanting to do that either - so long as she's not pulling a Vash and trying to save the enemy, it's all good. /o/

Either option sounds great. :]b D'you think these two might have a chance to talk some things out beforehand, or would they have figured out the interplay of their powers on the fly? Double-checking on their first thread together (over at lucetilocked), Pao-lin did mention her lightning powers to him but I...don't believe he would've gotten a chance to see it in action during the Halloween event? I think Shikamaru was in the tunnels most of the time, which has the power-canceling stuff going on, and Pao-lin was using her powers out on the surface against the moon.

LOL, yeah, I don't think Pao-lin would go so far as to save the enemy. She'd definitely be uncomfortable if she saw allies killing them, but I don't think she'd actually stop said allies from doing so.

Yeah, he probably didn't see it. He'd remember, though, and when going into a battle or a war, he likes to know as much as possible about the people he works with (when they'll actually tell them). IE. abilities, weapons, etc. He's a strategist, so that kind of information is vital to his plan-making.

TL;DR - they'd definitely have the chance to talk. XD If not at the usual strategy meetings the village has before the drafts, then during the brief time at the dorms.
