DEATH!!!!!

Oct 21, 2011 01:06

Hey guys! How's it going? Enjoying the HMD? Good. Good. Oh, you want an event? Well. I guess I have this one just... sitting here. I can share it. But before that. A few things.

Application Interests are opened! Applications will open on the first. But you all knew that. What you may not know? Expect the announcement of the Missions this weekend. There will be several posts going up for it, IC and OOC. We'll have details then. So moving on...

HALLOWEEN EVENT TIME!!

It's Halloween! A dark day! A red day! Ere the sun rises!

This time we'll be playing with a suggestion from Naomi, who plays Link. Thanks! The event that follows will be based on the game, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

This coming week, the Moon will start out looking normal. However the normal face of the Moon will begin to 'turn' the night of the 22nd and the following day (faintly in the sky). On the night of the 23rd, it will have nearly doubled in size. Also it will look incredibly angry. It will continue to grow in the sky over the course of several days. On the night of the 30th it will crash into Luceti and everyone dies!

... or at least it will seem that way. They will wake up in the exact spot they 'died' the next morning to find Luceti is... perfectly normal! The Malnosso wouldn't let the end of the world ruin Halloween! The clothing store will be stocked ONLY with Halloween costumes of all varieties, the grocery store will have all the candy you could ever want, and the night couldn't be nicer for your usual Halloween shenanigans!

So here's a quick and dirty timeline.

22nd - The Moon will start to 'turn' from its normal face during the evening hours at roughly 10 PM.
23rd - During the day the Moon will finish rotating, about mid-day you will be able to see the 'nose' in profile. At night it will be completely turned and lit up against the night sky. It will be roughly twice it's normal size.
25th - By now, the Moon will be a prominent sight in the sky, about fifty times it's normal size. It will be highly visible even during the day.
28th - The Moon will begin to have effects on Luceti, causing the lake to have small waves. The ocean will have large, powerful and dangerous waves.
29th - The Moon will begin to affect the barrier, causing it to seemingly fluctuate as bits of it are pushed and pulled. The power cap will fluctuate from 0% to 100% to anywhere in between in small pockets, meaning characters will go back and forth from being full power to having none at all at random.
30th - The Moon will be pushing against the barrier as early as Noon, causing the above effects to intensify. The ground will quake, small debris will be sucked into the air by the Moon's gravity, and all will seem lost! One minute after 11:59 PM, the Moon will breach the barrier and crash into Luceti!
31st - ... everyone wakes up, from 8AM onward, feeling a little stiff and sore, but otherwise fine. Luceti is back to normal and ready for Halloween! What a weird week, huh?

Oh. Wait. There more! There's also masks. Yeah. From the 23rd to the end of the 30th, characters will find masks distributed all over Luceti. In their dressers, in their beds, on the walls, and all other sorts of random and unexpected places. With the Moon coming down and threatening to bring an end to the world, the masks will bring characters a small sense of comfort. A sort of feeling that if they wear the mask, everything will be okay. Too bad those masks can be tricky to remove. And they have all sorts of effects, listed below!

ZELDA MASKS
These come from the Zelda games and have slightly different effects than they do in game. You can find pictures of them all here.

All-Night Mask: Constant insomnia and an inability to sleep, no matter how boring things are.
Blast Mask: Watch your temper! If you get a little excited or emotional, you will literally EXPLODE. Fortunately you will be just fine, just a little sore afterwards. Anyone nearby will get knocked over by the blast.
Bunny Hood: Move twice as fast! Think twice as fast! Eat twice as fast! Life sure is great in the fast lane, until you realize that everyone just seems so sloooooow.
Circus Leader's Mask: Almost anything will make you cry. Someone being mean, seeing something sad, seeing something happy, or just remembering fond memories.
Couple's Mask: Suddenly you're extra affectionate and just want to hug, cuddle, and be with the people you love. Or the people you like. Or just met. This could get awkward.
Deku Mask: Find the inner salesman in you! You've got everything a person could ever need (that you stole from the stores), all from the low price of NINETY NINE NINETY NINE NINETY NINE!! You can also communicate with flowers. Too bad flowers are boring, huh?
Garo's Mask: Causes the person to look like the ghostly, Ninja-like Garo. They may be compelled to hide in the shadows and attack people! Only when defeated will the person come to their senses.
Gerudo Mask: Wear the mask of a beautiful, female thief! Whether you're male or female, you'll be compelled to steal from others. You may also want to use your 'feminine charms' to get your way. Even if you don't have any.
Giant's Mask: Whoops! You are now thirty feet tall! Careful where you step!
Gibdo Mask: You are now a gibdo! These are zombie-like mummies. While in the mask you will be stuck stumbling around in zombie fashion and only able to communicate with grunts.
Gnat Hat: A nice cozy hat! Too bad it shrinks you down to three inches tall! Now you don't have to worry about the Moon crushing you. Everything else will instead!
Goron Mask: Your body is now as solid as a rock! You're also as heavy as one too. Life sure is boring in the slow lane.
Kamaro's Mask: Suddenly... you just want to dance! Dance! Dance! This could get tiring...
Keaton Mask: Suddenly you're feeling mischevious. Give people riddles or quizzes. Give them lovely prizes if they guess right or punish them with a mischevious prank.
Mask of Scents: Now you can smell everything. Everything. And worse than that, you smell like a pig!
Mask of Truth: People will find it incredibly difficult to lie in your presence. Incidentally, you won't be able to lie at all.
Stone Mask: Ever felt invisible? Well now no matter how much you yell or move, no one will notice you! They just seem to look right past you. Almost like you're part of the scenery.
Zora Mask: Gain the ability to breathe underwater and communicate with fish! Unfortunately... they have nothing interesting to say.

SPECIALTY MASKS
These masks were made by us mods to give a little more to play with. They have pictured linked to them to give you an idea of how they look!

Phanto Mask: At day, your good side is out to play. But be careful, because at night, your dark side is here to stay.
Mystery Mask: Who are you? What's your name? No one seems to know! It will be almost impossible to convince other people who you are.
Luchador Mask: You are the strongest! The greatest! In the ring, no one can defeat you! Until someone accepts your challenge, you will be compelled to call out anyone and everyone to take you on.
Drama Mask: One mask! Different emotions. The mask will reflect your current mood, which will fluctuate back and forth from one extreme to the other.
Hockey Mask: If things weren't bad enough already. Unleashes the monster inside you, compelling you to hunt down those you once cared about in the most terrifying of ways. And once you do... hug them?
Beak Doctor Mask: You are now a doctor! But not just any doctor, you have to help all these crazy people with all these weird masks. Unfortunately your medical methods may range from dated, impractical, to downright nonsensical. However, your methods can often succeed in removing other people's masks, so they can't be entirely wrong, right?
Mask of Light: Makes you invisible in any direct, bright light. You'll become visible again in shadows, shade, and indoors where it isn't brightly
Mask of Darkness: The same idea, but in reverse. You're invisible in darkness and shadows, but in direct light, everyone can see you again.
Opera Mask: Suddenly you feel compelled to sing in an operatic style - either an actual song, or the things you'd normally speak are sung instead. An additional side effect is the sudden desire to kidnap young girls.
Grim Reaper Mask: You are death incarnate. You will search constantly for souls to reap, and you'll keep trying until you get at least three people. To reap someone, you have to touch them. For a brief period of time, that person will seemingly disappear (they will gain either the Stone Mask or Ghost Mask).
Scarecrow Mask: A seemingly innocent mask, except anyone who sees you will instead see their deepest and darkest fears manifested. Incidentally, it works in reverse. Stay away from the mirror.
Troll Mask: What it says on the tin. It's all just one big game to you. People's beliefs, feelings, values? None of it matters as long as you can get a good laugh at their expense about it! Note, mask does not protect user from head wounds.
Ghost Mask: You've died, and now you must haunt the world of the living! Your body will be translucent, and everything you try to touch will go right through you. You're visible - just intangible.
King and Queen Masks: Now that you're royalty, you feel the need to look down on everyone around you. You'll be haughty and arrogant, far above your petty subjects. However, if you're already an arrogant person, this will be reversed - instead, you'll be compelled to be demure and responsible, concerned for the welfare of your people. Keep a sharp eye out for the Jester - for the Jester's performance can release you from the duty of the throne!
Jester Mask: All of a sudden, you feel compelled to perform! Not just that, but in front of as many people as possible. You'll do tricks, stunts, tell stories, and above all make a fool of yourself. Beware of running into royalty - if they don't like you, it could be off with your head! But if they do, you'll be released from your service.
Dog Mask: ... act like a dog. Bark at important things, dig when you think something is underground, suddenly like everyone you meet, and feel compelled to howl at that giant angry moon.
Wooden Mask: - A perfectly ordinary mask. It does absolutely nothing of note. Save for making you operate on cartoon-like logic and physics, anyway! Also your face turns green.
Mask of the Red Death: Clothed all in red, you haunt the village, compelled to seek out any and all who think they can cheat death. Your touch is poison, and anyone you lay a hand on will fall ill. And you will be compelled to lay hands on as many people as you can. The illness induced can last anywhere from 1-3 days and range from mild headaches to dizziness, nausea, and even fainting. The Mask of the Red Death, however, cannot cause serious or life-threatening illness.

NPC Masks: These masks look like the various NPCs! Bil, John, Molly, Jacob, The General, and The Commandant will all have masks! They don't seem to do anything though. But they make fine collectibles, since they'll last even when the event is over!
Luceti's Fallen Masks: These masks look like those who have died in Luceti before. When you wear one of these masks, people will mistake you for that person unless they really focus on looking away from the mask. Not only that, but you will appear to have the wounds of however that person died. Impalement? A gaping hole in their chest.
NOTE: Please only use these masks with player consent. This will work retroactively even for dropped characters. If that player is still in the game, be sure to get their okay first!

MAKE YOUR OWN MASKS
Have a cool idea for a mask? Use the Mask Approval thread below to give us some suggestions for masks. Remember to include an image of the mask (uploaded at imgur or tinypic to avoid hotlinking) and a description of what the mask does. It can have small effects, change a person's shape, or do other things. If the idea works, we'll approve it and add it here!

ANBU Mask: Wearers of this mask will be compelled to keep silent and not speak for as long as they're wearing it! They may also be prone to lurking and following people, out of sight.
Assassin's Mask: You are an assassin! A crazy, drug induced assassin that will cause you to become crazed and eventually pass out, causing the mask to fall off. In order to kill your foes, you have been gifted with mastery of all forms of Nerf weapons.
Blue Squares Mask: You are now a member of the Blue Squares gang! From now on you'll act thuggish, a little violent, and anyone not wearing a Blue Squares mask must be the opposing gang. Side effects may include lowered intelligence and an interest in arson.
Harlequin Mask: This mask will make you want to surprise people with cruel pranks, nasty jibes at their expense, or be downright medieval. Once you've got a reaction (most likely bad), you will hop away to escape, using your amazing acrobatic skills (... if you have any).
Namingway Mask: Your name is Namingway! You have one job and that's to give people the chance to change their name. Once they do, they'll believe that to be their real name for the remainder of the event (or until the player decides otherwise).
Paper Bag Mask: When you wear this bag, nothing can bother you! Your world is seen through two tiny cut out holes and what you see is just fine. Incapable of freaking out or worrying, life just passes you by.
Prophet Mask: This mask will make you float on air! Flamboyant and sparkly, nothing really gets you down. As a prophet, you can make predictions of the future. Or at least, you think you can.
Shadow Mask: This memory mask acts like a virus, spreading its effects to whoever the wearer touches. And the effects are terrible indeed: the wearer loses all memory, and anyone the wearer touches loses memories as well. (The amount of memory lost depends on the person.)
Tengu Mask: Your wings can fly now! As great as this is, you now will be arrogant and feel the urge to be mischievous and mean, such as carrying people off to leave them in inconvenient places. Also, you know Kung Fu now. Or at least, you think you do.
Xochipilli Mask: This creepy mask will curse the person wearing it with incredibly bad lucky. No, it won't kill you. But you will be doomed to fail anything you do and bad things will be attracted to you. The mask will, however, encourage you to pawn it off to someone else and transfer the curse.
Zorro Mask: Be the people's hero! Defend them from injustice and tyranny, all while speaking in gratuitous Spanish! You may also feel compelled to carve the first letter of your name into all sorts of objects, be they trees or cakes.

---

The Masks are optional and your characters can be unaffected by them and other people's masks if you choose. Characters can either remove them through a tremendous force of will, by fulfilling certain conditions (such as having them removed by characters with the appropriate masks), or they might just slip off at random after a certain amount of time. After that? Well. There's always more masks. And that Moon sure is scary.

Unfortunately seeing the Moon and being 'killed' by it are unavoidable. Characters are welcome to try and escape or brave it anyway with their AWESOME powers. Unfortunately there is nothing that will stop it from crashing down! Not even the Song of Time! Oh, and don't bother asking for the Malnosso to help. Apparently they're busy doing stuff. So they won't be answering any comments or concerns you may have about your impending doom.

To sum it up, the Moon will be visible in its angry form from the (night of the) 23rd to the 30th!
Masks will be available from the 23rd to the 30th only as well!

Questions in the mod thread, please! Use the rest of the post for plotting and discussion! Thanks!
