Come tonight at midnight, EST, the rain is going to stop. It's going to be extremely humid and uncommonly warm for the next day, and beginning Wednesday things are going to change.
Wednseday at 10:00 AM, EST, a sinkhole is going to open up where the well is. The well in the east of the town will collapse, fall in on itself and the sinkhole is going to grow a little for the next two days, until Friday, at 11:00 PM EST, the ground collapses entirely to reveal what appears to be a
sewer tunnel. The tunnel line will extend
past the outskirts and beneath the mountains; for all intents and purposes, it seems like just a sewer system.
...except that there's no water inside of it. What should be full of nasty sewage, especially in a town with indoor plumbing, is completely dry. And littered alongside the walls of this tunnel are steel doors, each locked with a padlock. Easy enough to break off, right? Especially with some of the powerhouses Luceti has as test subjects.
Only problem is that once a person enters the tunnel system, they feel weak, as if something is deliberately sapping their strength. Super-powered characters will feel like regular humans, with regular strength and speed, and no powers. Regular humans who enter won't feel a change. If you'd like to get into those rooms, you'd better either know how to pick locks or have a weapon that can cut through very thick and solid steel.
If your character manages to work open one of the doors, the will find that the rooms all resemble
this. There are discolored patches of wall near electrical sockets (that no longer have a charge running to them) as if something had been against the wall there. However, all equipment has been moved, and seemingly in a hurry. There are papers scattered about, and files lying hither and thither containing printouts of numbers and names of characters. Your character is more than welcome to find paperwork concerning himself or herself, or even paperwork pertaining to another character. However, the only information printed with the names are constant strings of numbers that don't resemble any programming language whatsoever. One can only imagine that all the paperwork is coded. Might want to get a brain started right away on breaking that code.
Your character is more than welcome to follow the tunnel. It's a two day walk in either direction, which obviously means that this tunnel passes far beyond the village and barrier limits. There are no obvious exits to the surface; one could probably be made, but without proper drilling equipment the entire tunnel is likely to cave in on the heads of those to attempt to.
As usual, any questions go here; if you have any questions as to where this is headed, please know that an update with a plot advancement will be coming on Sunday with more details.
Also, please add a new journal that will come into play later in this plot:
