Summary: Because one lazy genius would likely forget his own birthday (or at least, pay it no heed), Ino took it upon herself to throw a nice warm birthday dinner for him.

[For Yamanaka Ino, everything seemed perfect.
And why wouldn't it be? When she organized things, they would always go her way no matter what. Then again, tonight wasn't about her or about how skillful she was on planning simple dinner parties - simple surprise dinner parties - without so much of breaking a sweat.

Because tonight, it was all about a certain important teammate of hers who happened to be celebrating his birthday today. She would never understand why Shikamaru frequently thought that celebrating birthdays were troublesome. You were born in this world; why shouldn't one be thankful about that? Especially since Shikamaru's own birth was something she treasured. Hey, teammates and good friends until the end, right?
So, as much as he'd complain about it, she'd push through with this. He could complain later all he wants - that is, if he'd still complain. She went all out for this one! Deeming that he'd like delicious mackerel as the main dish of the dinner party, Ino went ahead and asked for a little cooking help which both Law and Ace complied to. And since Shikamaru wasn't one to enjoy large parties, she went out of her way to just give him a small, intimate dinner party instead with simple flowers as decorations (which she arranged herself).
