Derek had not intended to come at first; he was still working on dealing with people one-on-one, never mind in a crowd. But he was curious to see what Jack Horner would do with the place, and how well it might mesh with the plans Ginia and he had discussed earlier.

He hadn't bothered to research what was expected dress code wise, but he did go on the assumption that something similar to the original intent of the place, and dressed somewhat accordingly.

He'll find a quiet table somewhere out of the way, with a barely touched bottle of tequila and a glass settled on it while he people watches.

...He's really not sure if he wants to be here.

A tip of a wave from two tables away. Rather low-key, tonight. But she could not resist seeking out Derek's attention. Not at all.

Derek catches the motion and looks that way, smiling and nodding a little in response. He sees the outfit, raising an eyebrow.

You look good. He mouths the words, hoping she at least gets the gist of what he's trying to say.

[slaying]

At first, she seemed not to catch the mouthed message and then -- ah. Her head bowed and she smiled smallishly and gave an embarrassed little half-nod.

Not too shabby, yourself. But thanks.

That earns a grin and a silent chuckle, followed by a nod of thanks.

He'll gesture to an empty seat at the table where he's at. Want to sit for a moment?

[slaying]

Briefly, she looked bar-wards -- Jack-wards -- and seemed to frown for just a moment. And then Buffy stood and made a very direct line for Derek's table, sitting primly across from him.

"Welcome," she murmured despite the music, "to my scene."

The hunter doesn't miss that look, and while she makes her way over, he glances to the bar himself. And sees Jack.

And something clicks. Why was she...avoiding being seen. By Jack?

But then the Slayer is at the table, and he pushes the question aside for the moment. He'll leave it alone unless she gives him an opening. Instead, he scoots his chair a little closer so that she doesn't have to raise her voice.

"It's an interesting scene. Haven't been to a club since I was a kid. Want a drink? I haven't actually used the glass yet."

[slaying]

"I don't think that a drink's such a good idea, tonight. But thanks for the offer."

She settled her purse next to her and sat straight-backed in her chair. "But don't let my teetotalling ways stop you."

[derek_bliss]

"In time. Might as well take my time to enjoy it."

He's not in any rush with the bottle; it's as much a placebo as anything else. He'll glance back to the bar again, then back to Buffy.

"So what's up?"

[slaying]

"Baby Slayer in town. That's pretty up."

[derek_bliss]

Yeah, no. He seriously doubts that's what was bugging her.

"...I mean with the posture. You look like a nun stuck in a whorehouse, the way you're sitting."

Yeah, he's being blunt. Welcome to the hunter in something of a familiar environment.

[slaying]

"...A nun once let me try on her wimple."

Dodge, duck.

"All right, I won't push."

And now he will pour himself a little more tequila and drink the shot.

"Might want to relax a little though, or people are going to notice."

[slaying]

"People hasn't even managed to notice me once, yet. Tonight."

[derek_bliss]

"So why don't you want him to notice? Something happen?"

[slaying]

"The Baby Slayer happened. See? It's all connected. How zen of me."
