As one of the former performers at Cloud Nine and now one of the new bartenders as per agreement with Jack, it would have been a crime for Ginia to not show up for the grand reopening. She'd never give up a chance to dress up and have a bit of fun anyway. She even had a date too. Or a not-date. A "hey, since we live in the same building and we're both going to the same place, let's go together" arrangement?

Maybe it was best not to think too much on the details. The promise of a fun evening was good enough and it was nice knowing Cloud Nine was back up and open.

That is what brought one Ginia Solana, dressed to the nines in her best cocktail dress, to the reopening of Cloud Nine with her not-kinda-it's-complicated-date Rupert Giles.

Giles, mercifully, seemed to be...relatively unaware of the complicated nature of things currently. Why should this be strange? They did live in the same building, they were going to same place, they both worked here as musicians, there was ever need to scope the place out for a band. Why shouldn't they be here together?

...he kept telling himself that. Things between him and Ginia had been a bit...odd, since his return. Really, this was probably what they needed to sort things out.

Giles managed to track down a new suit in the clothing shop at the last minute - it fits him well. Even so, it's with the air of the consummate wall flower that he usually winds up observing the proceedings rather nervously from a point just behind Ginia's shoulder, when he's not off on his own people watching or taking a break from the noise and the crowds.

Speaking of noise and crowds...

"It's, it's never this active when I;m working."

There's just something about a man in a well-cut suit and Giles certainly looks good in it, an oft reminded fact as she catches herself admiring him. It has been an odd sort of state over the last few days, but they're friends and he's doing much better and she couldn't ask for more.

She hears his words and takes a moment to look over the crowd and all the people gathered, quite happy to see such a positive turnout (and on a Monday, though everyday is practically a weekend in Luceti).

/Parties have a way of bringing people out. I think it's nice seeing so many people here. Are you going to perform tonight?/

"I was, um, I was hoping to. But I know my coming here was a bit last minute. Wasn't certain if you and Horner had lined up anyone else."

The guitar was resting near the table they'd commandeered for themselves upon arrival, safe and sound in the knowledge that Giles could and would brutally retaliate against anyone who damaged it.

The crowd is currently drawing Giles' attention as well. Dawn's birthday was the last one he attended, and that was...well, a while ago.

/I am sure we'll be able to fit you in. You should play, I strongly encourage it./

Ginia smiles warmly and gives his hand a fond pat. He had his guitar, he was good at it, it'd be a shame to not let him have some time up on stage. Besides, between her and Frederic on the piano, the nightclub needed someone else to break up the piano playing. At least until they could get their band together.

She stops to watch everything again. The last time she was at a party, it was for the first opening with Kay and her smile fades slightly. Would Kay approve of all of this? She liked to think so. However, tonight was not a night for introspection. There'd been enough of that over the last few days and she was looking forward to having a bit of fun.

/What will it be? Drinks or hitting the dance floor?/

"Drinks." The reply is hasty, probably suspiciously so. But even if he and Ginia are friends, there are blessed few people that Giles would willingly humiliate himself for and she is not one of them.

He missed the opening, by virtue of being out on the beach collecting his thoughts, and Giles is still sorry about that. But now seems a good time to pick up the slack. A performance tonight and more to come.

...might as well jump in with both feet.

Ginia stops to look over at him, quite amused at how quick his response was and making a note to pick a little more at that later. But for now, drinks are a good starting point.

/I'm not sure they have tea here, but I could probably wrangle a teapot from the kitchen./ She gently teases before she glances over at the buffet table. /So lacking tea, pick your poison./

...well, damn. Giles hates drinking in public. But it was that, or dance, so...

"Any whiskey on hand? Or, um, someone who can mix something up?"

Ginia smiles a little and holds up a hand at him.

/What do you want me to mix you? You should I am one of the bartenders here. But what is it, Giles, picking the lesser of two evils here?/

Huh. Giles...actually looks surprised at her for a second. Up until now, the only person he knew with any skill behind a bar was Buffy.

"Without hesitation. Ever heard of a Dark and Stormy?"

Ginia beams and immediately rattles off the recipe.

/Highball glass, dark rum on the rocks, pour in ginger beer, garnish with a lime wedge if you want. Gosling's Black Seal rum is most often used, I'd have to use whatever they have here. Common variant is to use light rum for a Light and Stormy./

If Giles wasn't already trying not to focus on how amazing you are...

...the recitation is still good enough to earn a quick round of applause.

"Couldn't have said it better myself."

She gives a modest bow of her head and smiles back. Approval is always a nice and welcome thing and she'll never pass up the chance to mix drinks, especially for a friend.

/Let me take a look at the bar and I'll be back with your drink. Any alternatives in case they don't have rum or ginger beer?/

"Whiskey, scotch, gin. In that order of preference. I can't imagine them not having ginger beer, at least."

Ginia makes a mental note as she excuses herself to go over to look at the drink selection and glassware. There's an odd sense of satisfaction being back among the bottles. She takes her time looking over each bottle, checking how full they are, memorizing all the labels, treating each one with care and respect. To some people, it's just a matter of pouring liquid into a glass and calling it good, but to her, it was never that. Never to her father, never to her.

Tonight, the fates are back on her side as she finds some bottles of ginger beer amongst the soda and some dark rum. With grace and speed, she grabs a highball glass, fills it with ice, and pours in the liquids, calculating the amount going in through pure experience and a bit of math. Slice one lime for wedges, and you have one beautiful drink.

There might be a touch of pride in her smile and step as she returns with his drink.

((ooc; Send me a PM with songs Giles would like to play. Trying to figure out a set list for the three of them.))

A touch of pride well deserved as Giles takes the drink and gives it an appraising look. A look of definite anticipation.

You respect the bartender or you don't drink. It was a rule he lived by growing up as a gang brat and even as a trainee Watcher. And you appreciated a drink like this, because you wouldn't get it often.

And so, with a happy "cheers" he takes an appreciative gulp and his approval is very much evident.
