[ another day, another draft. and normally buffy would look forward to a big old bruise-up that she could sink her teeth into; however, her inexperience with battles-at-sea has her all shades of riled up. that along with other pieces of even more distressing news. the slayer is rarely one to doubt her own capabilities but the uncertainty is strong within her on this day.

firstly, she has people to visit. friends, those-who-can-be-considered-family, allies. and the people who find themselves in the between categories. she'll come knocking on some of your doors or, otherwise, will simply burst in without a knock at all.

she tries to train for a few hours in the barracks but finds herself...distant. distracted. pulled down by too many thoughts. so come the setting of the sun, she starts a slow-paced patrol around the village. ]

[ ...aha. she pauses in her patrolling and waits for him to approach. such a halt to her progress is as good as any invite to join her in her evening's wandering. the slayer is tired and sad and feelings of inadequacy have been plaguing her for the past twenty-four hours. ]

Come out, come out -- wherever you are.

[ she turns on her heel -- walking a lazy circle in the small clearing. holding her breath. feeling. ]

Well, I was trying to offer you a sliver of dignity...but if you prefer it this way?

[ a roll of her shoulders. the scythe gleamed in her grip but buffy felt no intention to use it. but its presence helped. and the distraction helped. and she took a deep breath. ]

I figure I should give you fair warning. Me? I'm not as out of practice as you probably think I am.

...Maybe it's been years but you still know me well enough to know I won't settle for playing prey. [ and buffy has an insider's familiarity with the village. with its twists and turns. the woods surrounding it. the traps the villainous sorts might set in the forest.

her eyes follow him -- or what she thinks might be him -- and she takes her first bold steps forward. finally! something she knows. something she's aware she's good at. none of this silly can she even sail talk. ]

prose, maybe? slaying August 25 2011, 21:26:25 UTC
"There's a man here, Angel. When he arrived a long, long time ago? He was infected. Vampirism is an infection in his world." She talked to him as she hunted him -- a hitch in her breath whenever she thought she was getting close for even a moment.

"They brought him here in the middle of turning. He was trapped as an almost-vamp for so many months. He wasn't like you but I could always feel him.

Helped me stay sharp."

A light laugh because it was so true. But Buffy continued her tale. "He hunts vampires, in his world. No powers. No chosen gig. Just brave men and women and even shorter shelf lives than Slayers."

"...Roger that. Gunn." But Buffy had no faith in their continued communication once they both get back home. They hadn't talked otherwise, right? So why would they start then. She was busy. She would forget this place.

It caused a twinge of anger just to think about how much she would forget.

Buffy was glad to see the vampire break cover and she dropped into an easy guard. Who needed to talk when they could communicate like this, anyway?
