[If the world keeps changing on him like this, Giles knows that he's due for a bad case of vertigo. Or at least a nasty headache. Actually, the Wallmasters that keep dropping him everywhere have already given him a pretty bad headache.

Under safer, quieter conditions, this would be absolutely fascinating. He's getting glimpses of worlds that aren't his and places he never thought existed. For every flash to the mountains of Tibet and the killing blizzard or the cemetaries of Sunnydale or, oh god, the ruins of Sunnydale...there's a patch of another world, another place, another time.

It's fascinating and exciting. This would be the perfect experiment if only the monsters didn't come with it.

Maybe Giles suddenly drops out of a point several feet in the air nearby, thanks to the errant Wallmaster that seems to have taken special pleasure in yanking him around. Maybe he's just hurried to wherever you happened to be in order to hunt down whatever new threat has flashed into existence.

The broad sword is definitely going to need to be sharpened after this.

He'll stay close to Building 7 for a while before that becomes unfeasible, but otherwise? It's going to be a busy few days for the former Watcher.]

When Giles appears beside him, Jack blinks a few times at the other man. He points. Yawning at their feet is a crater of a chasm, somewhere in a hot, dry, sunny place. A broken sign nearby reads "Welcome to Sunnydale."

"What the buggering blazes IS this, former Watcher?!"

They're somewhere hot. And dry. And sunny. These are the first things to sink into Giles' mind. He's somewhere hot and dry and sunny with Jac. That is the second thing.

Giles is just in the middle of pushing himself into a sitting position when he notices what Jack is pointing at.

The former Watcher goes pale.

"Not again."

"Not again? The land's gone! This isn't even the good sort of ends of the earth, sir! This is the horrid bad craterish volcanic apocalypse sort!"

That paleness isn't lost on the pirate; he's feeling a little giddy himself, looking down on it all. He still hasn't noticed the sign, by the way.

"Well, I can't say anything for volcano...we never had that problem, at least."

Giles gets to his feet and dusts himself off, scanning the area warily as he does so. It's too day time out for vampires, but...well, there could be other threats.

"But 'horrid', 'bad', 'craterish', and 'apocalypse'? Yes, that's about right."

"You know of what this is, Rupert?"

Deep breaths, Giles. Deep breaths. The sky isn't rending itself apart, the universe isn't ending. But if he looks down into that crater, will he see the Master looking back up at him? Or the red light that surrounded the Seed of the Universe?

Giles' reply is to go slowly and cautiously...he's practically inching, by the end...to the lip of the crater. With an effort, he manages to pull the sign free of the wreckage, and will attempt to balance it enough for Jack to see. Just in case he can't...

"...welcome to Sunnydale."

"You're telling me that THIS is what became of it!?" Buffy had told him it was destroyed, but...this seems beyond destroyed. This is annihilated.

".......Bugger."

And she'd walked away from it? Had to walk away from it. He recalls the almost-sacred space of 1630 Revello drive---yet another Battle Dome illusion, though the circumstances were meant to be date-worthy---and suddenly has a lot to think about.

"Were you here? When it happened?"

"I was here." Point made, Giles is just...going to back well up from the edge of the crater. He takes a seat on a handy rock, his eyes drifting to where the bus that had taken them safely away should have been.

"Most of us were."

Some hadn't made it out.

"Well why is it HERE? Why won't it.......go 'way?"

"We seem to have encountered our experiment for the month. I don't know what or why, but all I'll say is that you're lucky you didn't land inside the crater.

It should go away, after a while. The problem seems to be what will appear before it does."

"Vampires, you mean?" That was voiced in a low growl. "And me without my stakes."

Giles reaches into his coat pocket, pulls out a stake, and tosses it to Jack. "This isn't the first time I've been dropped in Sunnydale since this started."

Jack catches it. And...is surprised to feel grateful to the man. He grunts a sort-of sign of this.

"I visited it, you know. In the Battle Dome. Sixteen-thirty Revello Drive."

"...I know. Buffy told me.

We both agreed not to go back. Well, I agreed not to go back. She's apparently made a promise to someone to give it one last go."

Buffy, it would seem, was Sharing Things with her former Watcher. Jack's lip curled at the information. It didn't feel like betrayal, exactly; but it didn't feel comfortable, either, especially considering what had happened with the whole boat situation.

"In your world? She made a promise to return? To whom?"
