[Edward is in the middle of a particularly fierce training session in the clearing between the river and House 16, since it's a nice open space, and the Battle Dome is unavailable for training right now. He'll mostly be going through his basic physical workout when quite suddenly, without warning, a blade of darkness tears through the trees to interrupt him, bowling him clear over.

Out of the woods steps a small boy, innocent enough looking if not for the fact that he's linked to the shadows of the trees by slivers of darkness, menacing eyes lurking beyond him. He doesn't speak, but Edward can feel the sting of the attack on his back, his coat torn. No blood, though. He must've gotten off lucky.]

Selim- ...No, Pride.

[The boy doesn't speak; he doesn't have to. In a flash, another attack from the homunculus' shadow tears through the air, aimed at Edward's head, and it's all he can do to dodge the blows. Anybody want to help Edward duke it out with the kid?

...And even if it isn't in the Pride fight, CERTAIN RED-CLAD BLOND PEOPLE ARE REQUIRED TO MEET HIM AT SOME POINT... :|a]

[ at some point, wearing a red leather jacket quite like the one pictures in the icon above, buffy chances by; now, she's on the hunt for a particularly nasty looking ubervamp that managed to slip her hold earlier in the day. that in itself is weird enough -- vamps? in daylight? how awkward and how telling of the whole shift's simulatedness. ]

Watch out for Mister Tall, Undead, and Ugly! [ this she yells to the other blonde as she sees the turok-han head in his direction. ]

[What? Tall, Undead, and- oh god-]

What the hell!?

[Edward twists his body around to face the creature. He's not sure how fast it is, but after duking it out with Pride and all the other speedy foes, Buffy-vamps aren't that much of a challenge. So the monster's getting flung back by a swift kick to the face when it gets too close.]

[slaying]

[ the turok-han stumbles but ultimately takes the blow in gross, undead stride. but buffy is behind it and locks her arms around the thing, dragging him backwards. ]

You! You with the hair and the braid. [ the tiny little blonde calls to edward from behind this beast. ] Please tell me you have something conveniently wooden and sharpened at hand? Close at hand? Vaguely in the same sorta proximity of your hand?

[Whoa, okay, this girl's pretty damn strong, considering her- ...size. Er. This thing's size. god he did not just call her short At her question, though, he hesitates, if only because-]

I don't have wood- why wood!?

[He can make his automail a blade, but automail is most definitely not wood anything. There's also the fact that she's asking him to stab this thing and he's... not entirely comfortable about that idea...]

Because that's the easiest...[ the ubervamp thrashes in her arms and buffy fumbles to keep her grip, shoved backwards. it breaks free again and she swears. colourfully.

it's a good thing for all involved that these sim-enemies were not quite the level of those back home. one turok-han could practically be too much of a match for the slayer sans her scythe. ]

Watch out!

[Easiest? That makes zero sense to Edward, since wood is so... fragile compared to metal. But he doesn't have much time to ponder it, since the monstrosity takes a swing at him, and he barely has enough time to raise his arm to block it. The fist connects with his automail and sends him bowling sideways, cursing quietly. If that had hit his actual arm, he's pretty sure that a blow like that would've broken it.

Looks like this'll take some extra effort.]

Well, what about you!? [There's trees all around them, if she needs a wooden spike to stop it, he can just transmute one for her.]

[ she was quick to regain her feet and didn't bother trying to explain to the kid guy that the vamp had knocked her usual back-up stake way outta side about a mile ago. so instead she snaps a rough kick to the back of the turok-han's neck. it goes down with a growl. ]

Embarrassingly weapon-free, at the moment. What about a blade? Do you have a blade?

[ it would be the least pretty decapitation in the history of decapitations, but she could do it. ]

[Well, he's got a blade, but he can't give it to her because it's kind of attached to him. There is one thing he can do for her instead, though- a quick glance around gets the nearest tree in sight, and he hastily backpedals to reach it, clapping his hands as he does so. There's a resounding pang in the air, and when he slams his hands against the trunk, the alchemical reaction follows, drawing a spike out of the wood. ignore the hideous skull on the flat end]

Here-!

[He flings it in Buffy's direction, starting forward immediately after to rejoin the fight if he's still needed.]

[ buffy breaks from wailing on this turok-han -- knees straddling the demon's chest, her fist becoming well acquainted with its face -- to catch the gift. ]

Y-you just turned that tree into a stake vending machine. A vending machine for stakes. [ the enemy grapples for freedom but she shoved it back down with a sharp elbow. apparently, this stranger's mojo is way way more interesting than the gnashing beast below. ] Kinda vaguely creepy devil-stamped stakes -- [ she notes the skull ] -- but a stake all the same. Gee. Thank you.

[ and with both hands, she drives the business end deep into the turok-han's chest. it seems to disintegrate beneath her before even the dust flickers out of existence. buffy nods to herself and stands, brushing dust-that-isn't-even-there off her jacket. ]

[Her comments are somewhat lost on him - not just because of the vending machine comment, what - once she stabs the monster, at which point he just kind of... stares at the ground where it had been. What... the hell was that? It was humanoid, but- no, even so, it was...

...was it?

He grits his teeth, forcing himself to look away. Mustang would be scolding him for feeling the way he does, he's sure of it.]

What was that...?

Vampire. That was a vampire. And not your regular, friendly, neighbourhood garden variety either. That was big ugly evil come to dinner with an extra helping of horrible. Except...

[ she shrugs. ] Whatever's causing these things? It's getting the replication a little weak. Which is a point in all our favours.

[truthget]

Vampire... [Aren't those. Like. Fictional. Then again, he's seen his share of ridiculous and supposedly-unreal things in his lifetime already - he just fought a homunculus for god's sake - so let's just get past that issue right away.

...And she killed that thing. Ergh.]

So it's happening to other people, too. This isn't good.

Probably an experiment. Maybe.

[ except hadn't there been reports of the dome malfunctioning? buffy is once again frowning. ] Why? What happened to you?

I was attacked earlier. [He rubs his arm with a slight grimace, feeling for any dents or damages under the material of his coat. Seems to be alright, at least. (Good thing. Winry'd have killed him otherwise.)] Nothing like that, though- it was someone from my world. He disappeared before the fight could get too serious, though.
