Since fixing the physical TARDIS wasn't going well at all and it seemed they might be in for an extended stay, swimming lessons seemed practical. She understood the physics of it perfectly, but sometimes driving this body was a bit of a challenge. Better to practice in a controlled situation just in case.

The wardrobe was stocked with everything one could possibly need, so the TARDIS arrived looking more or less normal, if a little old to be a beginner.

Ami tactfully avoids calling any attention to anything out of place with the TARDIS. Instead, she smiles politely and dips her head in a half-bow.

"Thank you for coming. I'm Ami Mizuno," she'd gotten used to giving her name in the Western order. "Pleased to meet you."

"Well, it's best to be prepared." She grins, but the smile soon falters. "My name is...Sexy." The Doctor said it was her name- twice!- so why does everyone act like it's horribly strange? It's not like it's a Gallifreyan concept that can't translate.

And thus begins Ami's quest to politely find a way to never use the TARDIS' name. It would be too embarrassing! Despite her efforts not to make the situation uncomfortable, a strong blush creeps into her cheeks.

"I hope we'll get along well," she managed.

let's try this again... ;; vworping July 25 2011, 20:15:09 UTC
Well, the TARDIS picks up on that anyway. She knows the Doctor wouldn't give her a bad name, but it's difficult to account for every single culture in parallel universes. "He said it was my name. Does it mean something bad in your culture?"

Well... To be honest...

"Ah- no," Ami assured the TARDIS quickly. "Actually, it's good, sort of. It means a girl guys really want to be with. But it's not usually a name."

Good, sort of? Well, Orangey has never been one for mincing words. Maybe she should ask her about it. If there's one thing the TARDIS hates, it's making a fool of herself and these reactions are just bad.

"Well, I suppose if it's a problem you may call me TARDIS for today."

"That might be better. For now." Ami doesn't exactly enjoy this awkwardness either. Should she really be objecting to a name?

"Tardis," she tries the new name on her tongue.

Technically it's a classification and not a name, but it will do for now. "Yes, that's it." She really doesn't want to dwell on this any more than Ami does, so how about a nice subject change? " Now, how far has this class advanced?"

Ami shakes her head. "They're each at a different level. They're coming from different worlds and experiences." Even different species; it was proving to be quite good the ratio of potential instructors to students was high.

"Not like a standard class, then. Good. It wouldn't be very sensible given the conditions. And I suppose the wings don't help." Luckily- or unluckily- she has no idea how to make a human body swim so she has nothing to relearn.

"The wings create resistance, but as long as someone has good balance to begin with, it isn't too difficult to adjust for them." At least, in her own experience.
