“Okay, everybody, we’ve got Movie Sign!” Mike flourishes the DVD dramatically before placing it in the DVD player. The couches and chairs in the living room have been arranged for maximum viewing pleasure. And there are plenty of pillows and blankets on the floor for anyone who may be more comfortable there. There’s also plenty of popcorn in various flavors. “This film comes to you from 1956. It’s about a group of intrepid space explorers who come across a planet with only two remaining survivors, where not all is as it seems.” He presses play, and sits back on one of the couches as the credits roll.

An old movie. An antique, actually. It sounds like a good way to relax awhile. Besides, while the movie is going, there won't be pressure to be social, something Ami still isn't the best at. She finds herself a comfortable seat, one of the chairs, and sits a bit stiffly with her hands in her lap.

Mike hands her a pillow, just in case that chair isn't comfortable enough.

"I forgot how weird the soundtrack to this movie is."

"It's very different," Ami admits tactfully. "But, I sort of like it." Or rather, she likes the rather unprecedented experience of being in the midst of a large party, rather than hiding in a corner somewhere. Maybe she's grown up over the past few years after all.

"Really?" No one ever likes it. Mike sort of assumes you're being polite, since it's pretty out there. But he's pleased anyway.

She's been accused of having very strange preferences before.

"Really," she assures Mike. And it's probably true. She likes new experiences and broadening her tastes.

"Cool." He turns back to the movie with an un-erasable grin on his face. She likes it.

"Ah- Mike, would you like to sit here?" Ami gestures a bit hesitantly to a chair beside hers. She probably shouldn't try to claim the guest of honor's attention so much, but she can't quite help herself.

"Sure!" And he probably shouldn't sound so eager, but it's Ami. He stands up on the couch and just jumps over to the chair, thumping down in it, grinning at Ami. "Want some caramel corn?" He offers her the bowl.

"Thank you." She takes a small handful of the caramel corn. "Did you make it?" She feels a little bad that it seems as though Mike did most of the preparations on his own.

And then it makes her admire him a little. How different would things have been for her if she could have taken that initiative sooner herself, made the situations she wanted for herself?

"Yup! I'm pretty much the only one who likes cooking in my family." Hence why he did most of the preparations. Also, he's used to not relying on other people, so it doesn't even strike him as odd.

"I grew up cooking for myself, too. Mama was usually at work." Ami says this with as little regret as Mike does; it was simply how things were, and Mama still stayed involved in her life even if she hadn't been very present.

"They can cook, but it's nothing you'd wanna eat unless you were starving." He does not say that as ironically as most people do.

"You're hard on them, I think." She says this smiling, because she's used to the way they all teased Usagi back home.

"I'll let you decide for yourself if you're ever unfortunate enough to have to eat Leo's cooking." He's totally not watching the movie.

She's finding it easier than expected to be distracted herself.

"One of my friends from home was a very good cook. Actually, she made Usagi-chan's wedding cake even, as a gift."
