Who:
thestormishere, various other draftees
What: Rampaging Cie'th on the battlefield.
When: Tuesday afternoon.
Where: The battle ground on the southern farmlands.
Summary: Lightning's time to complete her Focus has run out due to being in Luceti too long. As a result, she transforms into a monster fueled by unending negative emotion, causing havoc during the battle against the Third Party. Something should probably be done about that. (Also, tl;dr.) See
here for OOC info.

[ Lightning has had a very big problem during her stay in Luceti so far: she's a l'Cie, forcefully bound to a magical contract that orders her to finish a specific task- a Focus, which she either must complete... or run the risk of turning into one of the monsters called a "Cie'th" instead. However, even if she wanted to, her particular Focus can't be completed while trapped in Luceti. And since the Malnosso refuse to help her before time runs out, her immediate fate here... is pretty much already decided.
To make things worse, as soon as
the last attempt to save her utterly failed, it quickly became obvious that the end was probably going to hit during the draft. With little other option, Lightning has since grown determined to make the battle her last stand. She may not be the strongest person out there, but she is ridiculously powerful and doesn't have much to lose any more; backed up by
gardenerofgaia, she focuses her energy into making the widest path of destruction she can, killing the enemies and generally avoiding the other Lucetian combatants except to heal. Just in case.
The scuffle they're in now doesn't seem particularly different than what's happened so far with the two women- they fight, kill, heal themselves... but then, a 'Shifter' enters the picture. Their magic suddenly going away is certainly a surprise, though fortunately they'd already been told about it, right? Lightning just switches to gunblade-only mode, and by her hand the soldiers continue dying one by one- the chest of one completely blown apart, another's wing shattered as a shot tears through it, sending its owner spiraling to the ground in agony....
And then her gunblade jams, caught halfway between firearm and sword. As a result, the pink-haired woman just barely manages to duck out of the way of an impending attack.
However, if there is any other advantage to choosing this model besides its increased firepower, it's that it's possible to force it into one form or another. Without skipping a beat, Lightning grabs a section of the weapon, yanking it up with all her Shift-reduced strength, flings her arm out so that inertia snaps the blade out the rest of the way, and then lunges at the warrior responsible, knocking aside his own sword and-- gutting him violently from hip to ripcage. The spinning, follow-up blow takes his partner's head clean off.
With that, the temporary restriction fades... and the return of Lightning's power hits her like a physical force- at this point, she's been almost literally holding back the pull of the transformation into a Cie'th; forced to fight the soldiers like that, her concentration is broken. The Brand over her heart flares to life, and with no stages left, the eye at its center finally opens completely.
... There's no extended show here or even much warning of what's about to happen. Lightning's off-hand goes to her chest as she suddenly falters, and she falls to her knees as, for some reason, she flings her gunblade away from her. There's a blinding flash of light, and a moment later the closest remaining soldier practically explodes with the force of the point-blank Thunder spell that slams into her.
The thing that's responsible, stumbling to its feet a few seconds later, bears very little resemblance to the blood-soaked young woman it was just before- crystalline material covers its body completely, blue and black save for the bright-red, eye-like area in the middle of the chest. It turns with a roar, searching for something else to attack.
Shortly afterward, the warning goes out, filtered to the draftees' journals- there's a new threat on the field; stay away unless you know or can fight against magic. ]
