Hubert's impression of Pao-lin isn't as complicated as the other way around. From the moment she declared that she was a Hero, he was instantly hooked, and almost instantly a fan -- hearing more about her line of work got that job done. While she isn't a part of a sentai, which is his absolute favorite aspect of heroes, what she does is still admirable and a great thing. For that, she has his utmost respect and attention whenever she desires it. Yup, he's already whipped. One of these days, he'll ask her for her autograph.
At the same time, there's a lot about Pao-lin that jumps out at Hubert and strikes him as unorthodox for a Hero type. He doesn't hold it negatively on her. Understandably, she's still a "child" in that she's his junior, and she's got some tendencies that are most prevalent in adolescents. (Sneaking cookies in while painting? Really? It was pretty funny.) It's at times like these that he sees her more as a girl than anything more than that, though these moments don't last long. In a sense, his fixation on her being a Hero bars him from digging farther and thinking more of her. The judgments, positive and negative, are there in the back of his mind, but he's not consciously acknowledging them. At any rate, I think it's this realization that she can be mundane that keeps him from going all fanboy-like on her.
One thing for sure is that, despite her moment of "weakness" in the tunnels, she has a great deal of respect from him because she kept going until the very end. He can appreciate the stubborn types if that tenacity is put to good use, and Pao-lin more than does that.
Her gluttonous tendencies, on the other hand . . . (unsure) Hubert is big on gender roles, and doesn't mind exceptions, but Pao-lin's blatant lack of manners and boyish nature are a bit of a surprise coming from a Hero. Then again, Hero work must be rigorous, so he can reason with himself on that one.
Thus far, he's way, way more grateful that she so willingly changed the subject than he appears at the mural. Even after having cleared things up with his family, he still regards his past a little bitterly, so he's glad that Pao-lin let him avoid talk about it and didn't question any contradictory information he gave out as a child (ie. his father being a lord and previously claiming that he came from a place without nobility, the change in surname, etc). It's for seemingly small things like this that he holds her up a little higher than the rest of his circle of acquaintances, even though he unknowingly figures that she hasn't made half the connections yet.

I was actually really curious about how Hubert's hero worship affected his views on/relationship to Pao-lin, so I'm glad to hear you mention that. Oh yeah, he is so whipped. |D I suspected that it simultaneously drew him to her (YOU ARE A HERO, THIS AUTOMATICALLY MAKES YOU AWESOME) and also distanced him (still can't get past the OMG A HERO phase, even after seeing her "weaker" moments in the tunnels and then later seeing what a tomboy she is). Like I said over in my own thread, Pao-lin has some inkling that he's a fan of that sort of thing in general, but she'd probably be really (pleasantly!) surprised to find that he's a fan of her specifically, particularly because she doesn't think she's done anything that impressive in Luceti so far. Really, if the two ever did become a Hero pair, Pao-lin would be willingly calling Hubert "sempai", and not just because of the age difference. XD
RE: backstory stuff, you're right that Pao-lin hasn't really made the connections between the discrepancies in what little she knows of Hubert's backstory. Someday I will remedy my canonblindness to him, sob. Part of it is that she doesn't quite understand that sort of thing, but she also really Gives No (0) Fucks about it. Whatever suspicions she's picked up, she figures that she'll find out eventually at some point. Or maybe she won't! Who cares, let's go get pizza again. :|b
Boy howdy, he's going to get such whiplash this week, seeing super-girly Pao-lin on Tuesday and then seeing cross-dressing Pao-lin at the Christmas ball, LOL. Will he be man enough to handle that?

That hero worship completely overshadows the relationship, it had to be brought up. /sob But you've basically nailed it! . . . no, Pao-lin, you can't call him that, he's going to call you "sempai" instead. ;u; All the respect ever. She got it easy and lucked out, considering how paranoid and cold he can be otherwise.
I want it to be 2012 so that I can get my localized copy of the game, ahh. All you need to know is that he was butthurt over what his father did seven years ago. He's so fortunate that Pao-lin's that way because he tries to skirt around those topics. I guess he can always use pizza to take her attention away when he needs to. :|a
FFFFFF you were in a dress earlier, what happened?? That's implying if he was ever manly . . .

No kidding! And she likely wouldn't have any idea of how good she has it with him for a while.
Isn't the localized version of the game PS3-only? I don't even have my own Wii or 360, damn, never mind a PS3. D: Food will always been an attention-getter for Pao-lin! At least until she dies in Luceti and loses her sense of taste for about four months. I may or may not be a cruel mun. /whistles innocently
SHE HAD TO SCRUB AWAY ALL OF THAT ICKY LACY ESTROGEN, OKAY. Hence, cross-dressing. The perfect solution to...things! Or something.

Mm-hmm; it's okay, I will virtually share my PS3 with you. ;3; Oh. That is indeed cruel. How will she live without her sense of taste, I can already feel the agony oozing from her.
The perfection solution to removing estrogen overload, clearly.

1) forgetting about her experiences in Luceti
2) remembering a bad end to the Maverick & Rotwang plot in which the rest of the Heroes got killed by the H-01 bots and she was left in a coma for a couple of years
3) wanting to take righteous revenge on all of the major players at HeroTV because she believes that they were all in on this plot to kill off the Heroes
4) arriving in Luceti under the delusion that the people that look and act like her Hero friends are actually just super-realistic killer androids designed by Rotwang (maybe modified H-01 bots in disguise? lulz) to both throw her off her guard and eventually eliminate her
So Bride-lin arrives in Luceti, sees a killer robot Hero friend, and goes RAWR DIE on him/her. Unbeknownst to her, Yuri witnesses the killing, and as a result he actually now has just cause to go after her as Lunatic and execute her as a murderer. The Bride-lin & Lunatic fight eventually ends with the two of them killing each other, and...yeah, there's a reason I refer to this plot as the Deluxe Scenic Route on the Trauma Train of Pain. :| If I ever pulled something of this scale of angst off, I'd be waiting until after her birthday in April, at the very least. Part of it also depends on what the T&B cast looks like over time and how the muns feel about the idea (Yuri-mun seemed supportive of it; haven't yet talked to Kotetsu-mun or Barnaby-mun since I'm kind of biding my time and seeing how those characters fit into Luceti and whether they'll stick around).
EITHER WAY, HUBERT HAD BETTER BE THERE TO COMFORT HER AND AT LEAST ATTEMPT MAKE HER FEEL BETTER. IN HIS OWN AWKWARD, LINEFACED WAY.

Also, for some reason I really like the sound of "Bride-lin," h-haa.
HE WILL DEFINITELY BE THERE, OR AT LEAST TRY TO BE, BECAUSE NO HERO DESERVES THIS TRAUMA.
