Character
Name: Mikuru Asahina Fandom: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Gender: Female Age: She passes for a 17 to 18 year old, but in reality, this is unknown. Time Period: Post-Where Did The Cat Go?, in volume six of the light novels. Wing Color: Light pink. History: Hoo boy. First, Here is a timeline. The series is written out of order, with some short stories happening in completely different seasons with other short stories in the same novel. Here are the light novels. Essentially, Mikuru has been through volumes 1 through 4, Endless Eight (which is in volume 5) Live A Live (volume 6), The Day of Sagittarius (volume 5), Charmed at First Sight LOVER (volume 6), Snow Mountain Syndrome (volume 5) and finally Where Did The Cat Go? (volume 6). She's pre the prologue of The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya, however.
Personality: Mikuru is first seen in the first (real) episode of the series. She's dragged into the clubroom by Haruhi, squeaking and confused. This is actually a good depiction of Mikuru, for the most part. She is a timid young woman, soft-spoken and gentle, the definition of "moé". In fact, that's what she's there for. Mikuru is the club's mascot, and spends her time being forced in fetish-y costumes to reel in interest in the club. This is often to her dismay, less the costumes part and more the "being forced to wear costumes" part. Mikuru actually doesn't have much of a problem with her role in the Brigade, as long as she isn't exploited. She enjoys making the tea, and even cheers her friends on, she doesn't even seem to have much of a problem with the costumes. Of course, this is probably because Haruhi wants her to wear them, but Mikuru is decisively more stereotypically feminine than the majority of the girls in the series

Even though she is loyal and dedicated, and would jump through hoops for her job and the Brigade -- it's not clear if that's because of her job or because she really cares for her friends. It's clear she likes Kyon, likely in a romantic sense, and it's clear she likes Haruhi. Despite Haruhi's treatment of Mikuru, it's rather obvious they care for each other as friends, especially in later novels. This, however, doesn't seem to translate over to Nagato and Koizumi. In fact, Mikuru seems downright terrified of Yuki, and she tip toes around Itsuki. It should be noted that her fear, or uneasiness, around Yuki carries over to her future incarnation; she's rather quiet and frosty around her in The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.
It's easy to see why, though. None of them agree on what Haruhi is, where her powers came from, how they affect the world; Itsuki seems to downright hate Mikuru up until The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya. He explicitly states that he finds the Mikuru Asahina he knows to be a friend. However, he doesn't find the

Oh, yeah, she's a complete pushover physically, too. She has no athletic abilities whatsoever, and when Kyon asks if she carries weapons from the future, Mikuru actually states she isn't allowed to carry firearms because they might be too dangerous. It's actually rather sad, if Mikuru is there to attract Kyon (and, well, Haruhi), she's likely very much in the dark. Basically, she can be largely useless, unless she's time traveling. It's not really her fault, though, this is what she was trained for, and how the time travelers handle things. In the future, she doesn't seem to employ any kind of physical exertion either; her dubiousness comes from the fact she's manipulative on the whole. (Which raises questions on how Mikuru eventually becomes that way, but that's not been seen yet.)

Well! If anyone's interested, please tell me. I think it'll be fun, and I don't mind. The more people, the better, that's what people say in this time, right?
Third Person: Should one find themselves in an unusual situation and require backup, contact is to be made immediately.
She's been trying to make contact for the last twenty minutes, though, but her brain keeps replaying the information. It's kind of like an answering machine, except the same message has been left over and over. Should one find themselves in an unusual situation...
Yeah, right, of course, duh, even if that wasn't a command, committed to memory, she'd still do it. It's not just common sense, it's the quickest way to get information. But, just like that summer, it's not working. Mikuru keeps getting more and more panicked, and she reaches a point, probably about two minutes later, where she finally slams the book down on the ground, lays her head on it, buries her face in her hands and begins to sob.

Okay, okay. Even if she didn't use the communication device, she probably then couldn't go into the town, if there was one, and be found. Because, and she had only briefly considered this, there was only a one in a million chance that Kyon or Haruhi was here. Someone who could help her. Was it possible they were here? It wasn't impossible, just unlikely. A very big unlikely. Was it a good thing? ... Nope, probably not, especially since no one knew what would result of Haruhi finding out about mysterious happenings (at least, not right now) and Mikuru really, really, really didn't want to make things worse. Further, being spotted by people who didn't know her could have a bad effect. She didn't really want to cause any Closed Space -- not again. She also didn't really want to sit alone in the snow and basically wait to die, too. Trying to keep timelines stable was difficult. Being the extra added picture, no matter how nice of a picture you are, is difficult. You can't disturb anything already set in place, which means everything
