Tia - Ys Seven 4/7? coolstempers May 1 2011, 04:11:11 UTC
Personality:

Tia is what the fans of the Ys series tend to refer to as a member of Adol's "harem" of girls. Basically that refers to the main female character who is very much a major part of the plot. Such a girl usually ends up having to be rescued by him at least once and usually protected from harm at some point. Most of these girls are also not the types who can defend themselves, but help Adol in some way, like healing him, providing him a place to rest up, or even just providing information to help him out.

Tia definitely fits most of these traits. At least, she intends to make Adol think she fits these sorts of traits. One major thing about Tia is that she is not what she pretends to be. She acts like a normal defenseless girl because it suits her purpose to be thought of as being normal.

She pretends to be something she is not for some very important reasons. For one, her tribe was treated very badly by the tribe that now lives in Altago City, which was her original homeland. As far as those in Altago City know, her tribe no longer exists, so her showing her skills would risk great harm from her enemies.

The other reason behind this is that she knows that in the near future she will have to become an enemy to the people. It is better than people not know who she is so that by the time they can act to stop her, it is far too late.

But despite the fact that much of what we saw about Tia was indeed false, there was a good amount that seemed to be her real self. For instance, we know she loves Altago and cares about people. One could almost say she loves it too much because she is willing to do a very horrible and distasteful duty to see Altago prosper. She knows that if she does not do this duty, all the people will suffer needlessly and eventually die anyhow.

It is important to understand that despite the fact that Tia is indeed willing to kill many for the sake of the overall benefit of the land, she is a kind and decent person at heart. The horrible things she has done are intended to be a mercy. The people that died for the sake of the Rite were killed swiftly and with as little pain as possible. She felt that was better than the people dying slowly of Iskan Fever, or slowly dying of thirst or starvation. She is a healer and does prefer to cure people and make their lives easier, but she also knows that sometimes death is the only way to end suffering. Aisha put it very well at one point "it would be far easier if she were evil" And that is true, it would be easier to think Tia is a truly evil woman, but she's not. She is a good person with skewed morals and does not believe that death is a horrible thing, she considers it a new beginning because she knows that those who die will be reborn someday.

Also, it is important to note that while she is a kindhearted person, she's not always the most trusting. She does tend to treat people kindly and with as much respect as possible, but she seems to especially dislike rich people who use their standing to bring others down rather than helping them. People like Commander Raud annoy her to no end because he thinks that his father's wealth and position makes him able to do as he pleases. Though despite Aisha being a princess, she didn't mind the girl because Aisha actually cared about the people and not just the rich ones. She cared about the poor of Old Town too and never judged Tia for her lack of money and where she was born. This also did play a part in why Tia had so many killed in the Rite, because part of it was revenge against the rich people of Altago City who treated her so badly and the past where they persecuted her people. But even with her great dislike of them, she did try to be merciful.
