Chrodechild - Suikoden Tierkreis 2/?coolstempersMay 1 2011, 04:02:30 UTC
Personality:
Chrodechild's personality can easily be summed up in a single word: regal. Every single part of her personality shows off the fact that not only is she of royal blood, but she acts in a way that one would expect a future queen to act. It shows not only in the way she acts towards others, but even in the way that she carries herself.
For one, she always treats people with respect. It doesn't matter what their standing is, or even how they have treated her in the past. She will always respect them. For instance, Danash had wrongfully arrested her and tried to blame her for something that was not her fault as a ploy to get her to marry him and when she escaped her parting words to him were thanking him for taking the Blades into the Magedom after Astrasia fell. She had plenty of reason to dislike the Mage Lord, but she did not let that overshadow the fact that he had aided her and was a good ally until the events of Lazdaa Fortress.
Even when dealing with the Order of the One True Way, she counts them as a worthy foe, even if she does dislike them. Her treating people with respect means she does not ever underestimate her enemy. She understands better than any what the Order can do to those who are weak-minded and she will not blame those weak-minded people for falling for the Order's propaganda. That definitely showed when she took back Astrasia and forgave her own sister for becoming a part of the Order and betraying her kingdom. She did not even punish Fredegund because she understood that any person going through the same situation may have ended up in the same place.
Chrodechild is also incredibly humble in her dealings with people. She doesn't act spoiled or haughty because of her position. In fact, she does not tend to mention anything more than being the commander of the Blades of Night's Veil when she meets someone. Sieg didn't find out she was Astrasia's Princess until Roberto mentioned it. Sieg really explained her reasons for this the best: She wants to be known for her own skills and accomplishments, not what she was born as. She can help what she does, but she cannot help what she was born as. And even if someone gives her praise, she often will downplay it. Like when Sieg thanks her and Asad for showing up to defend Citro Village, her response was that she was glad they made it in time and that the villagers did the biggest part. She won't brag about what she has done and even if someone else mentions it, she will tend to downplay it and compliment the person instead if she can. Or she will bring up a point where she didn't act as well as she could have. At the same time, she won't tend to make it look like she denies a compliment, she just merely turns them into praise for others. Like if her skills are complimented, she may well say that it was the work of all those involved who did it. Even if she acknowledges her skill, she will say something more like it was years of training and hard work.
It is also important to note that she does not tend to have anything bad to say about anyone. Even when it comes to the Order, she will speak more of disliking their ways and their propaganda, not the people involved. She will not stoop to the level of insulting another person. She understands that people have their faults and will make mistakes and do bad things. And while she may see the good in everyone, she will not let that fact deter her from anything. If she cannot deter someone through diplomacy, then she will use her blade to defeat them in honorable combat.
The way she acts does gain her a lot of admiration from other people, and especially from men. She has numerous admirers and it takes very little to see the sheer admiration they have for her. For instance, one doesn't need to look all that hard to find that Asad absolutely adores her. It's also evident that Roberto and Meruvis think highly of her. The Mage Lord resorted to vile trickery to force her to marry him. Yet she treats all of these people with respect and doesn't really encourage or discourage their affections. She seems almost oblivious to the fact that they all love and adore her, but she's quite aware, she just doesn't want to hurt them or intentionally give false hope.
