Name: Tsubaki Yayoi Fandom: Blazblue: Calamity Trigger Gender: Female Age: (about) 18 Time Period: While she and Noel are still studying at the Military Academy, just before Noel is recruited to join Jin’s squad. Wing Color: White
History: Behold. As of yet, little is known of Tsubaki’s history. Born in the third hierarchical city of Naobi and hailing from the wealthy and influential Yayoi family, she is respectable and proper, known for her intelligence and serious attitude. She is a childhood friend of Jin’s due to relations between their families, and looks up to him for his academic proficiency and position in the Military Academy, telling him of her aspirations to follow in his footsteps. Upon entering the Academy herself, she befriends Noel Vermillion, and asserts her role as peacekeeper between the two due to Jin’s seemingly unjustified animosity toward Noel. Tsubaki treasures her time spent with her friends at the Academy where she becomes an honours student and eventually graduates to join the Librarium’s 0th Division: the ‘Wings of Justice’.
Tsubaki Yayoi - 2/4_envii_March 3 2010, 09:02:45 UTC
Personality: Tsubaki is a mature and sensible young lady, proud of her family and content to behave in accordance with what is expected of her as a Yayoi, while at the same time proving to be a firm believer in judging people on their own merits and not their social status.
Hard-working and academically gifted, Tsubaki places a great emphasis on her studies, eager to assert her own worth. However, she is easily distracted by the actions of those close to her, often finding herself plagued by concern over the welfare of her friends during the various trials they encounter. She hates war, having witnessed the effects it has on those who experience it in both her father and Jin, and thus is reluctant to see Noel volunteer to serve the Novus Orbis Librarium on the frontlines.
Tsubaki feels a strong sense of duty toward the NOL, an organisation she holds in high regard due to its role as regulator of public order and protector of the citizens. She is driven by moral values, and being free from the delusions of grandeur and lust for power that have devoured so many other Librarium soldiers, her dedication to the organisation stems from a genuine aspiration to maintain peace and order, born of her upbringing in an influential family and the desire to make use of her privileges. She also holds a great deal of faith in her own convictions, asserting that “Even if I lose the light of day, the truth within my heart will never fade. My own truth will always guide me.”
Though sent to the Academy for the prestige associated with attendance, Tsubaki takes full advantage of the opportunity it presents to become a knowledgeable and productive member of society. She takes an interest in the nature of justice and distinguishing acceptable behaviour from that which is unacceptable. As such, she often finds herself reprimanding her colleagues for impropriety on their parts, but always in a tactful rather than condescending manner. Considering her prowess on the battlefield, however, others ought to beware: her Astral Heat (or super-super move) is aptly named ‘Sacred Judgement: Goddess that Judges Man’.
Reflective of her general behaviour, Tsubaki dresses conservatively. As opposed to the mini-skirts sported by the other girls at the Academy, she wears a knee-length skirt with tights. Similarly, her battle garments cover her from neck to toe. In this regard it can be seen that she is content to dance to her own tune and is unwilling to compromise her own values based on the expectations of others.
Throughout the time Tsubaki spends as Noel’s roommate at the Military Academy she proves herself to be a loyal and supportive friend, quick to defend Noel against Jin’s short temper and encourage her during moments of self-doubt. She is also willing to make use of her family’s status to assist others, as seen when she offers to take up the issue of Noel’s early recruitment with the brass. In addition, she demonstrates her own modesty and determination to be deemed a valuable ally when she reassures Makoto that the bullying she’s subjected to is the result of jealousy on the parts of those who were only accepted into the Academy because of their family names, adding that it was how she herself got in…not that the argument stands, considering Tsubaki was always a straight-A student.
Tsubaki Yayoi - 3/4_envii_March 3 2010, 09:03:40 UTC
Strengths: Tsubaki is a trained soldier and proficient in combat, particularly her ability to wield Armagus or magical weapons, made all the more effective by the speed of her attacks. Having dedicated herself to all aspects of her education at the Military Academy, Tsubaki is a skilled warrior and not one to be taken lightly, as demonstrated in her achieving the rank of First Lieutenant in an elite division of the NOL at a young age.
Her capabilities as a fighter and a strategist are compounded by the fact that her studious nature has armed her with a wide knowledge base and an in-depth understanding of an impressive range of subjects (just ask her favourite weapon: it’s a book for crying out loud).
Mentally, Tsubaki certainly has an advantage over the majority of the Blazblue cast. Having been spared a childhood characterised by trauma and a weapon that robs its wielder of his or her sanity, Tsubaki fairs particularly well in the realm of mental health. Accordingly, she is often sought out by her classmates for advice and reassurance, most notably by Noel when she can’t seem to figure out if she’s actually in control of her weapon or not.
Weaknesses: Combat-wise, Tsubaki’s most prominent weakness is that her attacks are considerably lacking in range. Her speed often makes up for this shortcoming, but it still serves as a significant impediment to her competence in battle. Her stronger attacks also require time to charge, which makes her particularly vulnerable to swift opponents.
A stickler for rules, Tsubaki finds herself in many a moral dilemma when the Librarium’s orders are at odds with her own values, most notably evidenced when her resolve to obey her superiors falters due to the fact that she has been assigned the mission of assassinating her closest friends, Noel and Jin. Aside from this particular breach of her duties as a Librarium soldier, Tsubaki’s faith in the organisation compels her to blindly follow orders, as alluded to by the fact that a side-effect of wielding the magical weapon Izayoi, which she sometimes takes on missions, is that it imposes blindness upon its user.
Additionally, while usually quite capable and rational, Tsubaki is prone to becoming consumed by worry over matters both in and out of her control. Most of her appearances in the game involve her fretting over something, be it Noel’s attitude, Jin’s abandonment of his post, her assignment concerning the two of them or her own failing eyesight. In allowing her emotions to incapacitate her, Tsubaki leaves herself open to even bigger crises.

First Person: …Is this some sort of practical joke? It’s far from funny. Dragging me out here is one thing, but dressing me like this in my sleep?
I’m not impressed.
Honestly, girls. Couldn’t you have thought of something more original…and perhaps a little less disturbing? I thought I was a good influence on you, but unfortunately it seems as though my efforts have been for naught.
Still, I’m curious to know how you pulled it off. I’m a light sleeper, so unless you slipped something into my tea…actually, I’m not even going to entertain that thought. There’s no sense in getting worked up over pure speculation.
Well, I guess all I can do now is try to find my way back to the dorms…but this landscape isn’t familiar at all. Come to think of it, I should definitely be able to see the NOL branch from here, even over the tops of these trees, but I can’t seem to locate it.
And the cold-I never knew it could get so cold.
This is more than a little strange…what if it isn’t a prank? It seems far too elaborate, but I can’t come up with any other logical explanation.
I hate to admit it, but I’m really starting to worry.
…How far from home could I be?
Third Person: Tsubaki ran her fingers through her hair. She may have been hopelessly lost in a mysterious forest, lacking any means of communication, and without even the vaguest idea of how the situation had presented itself, but she was not about to wander around in an unpresentable fashion.
She scrutinised the unfamiliar dress in which she’d found herself and the wing-like protrusions sprouting from her back, working her expression into a frown. She wasn’t used to dealing with such unusual circumstances, and it was with reluctance that she came to accept the drastic shift in her well-established routine derived from a largely predictable Academy-based lifestyle.
She looked about in amazement. Trees reached up into the sky in every direction and odd patterns of light danced across the small clearing in which she had awoken as a fierce wind tore through the leaves. Tsubaki had certainly braved strong winds before, but none so mercilessly cold. She wrapped her arms around herself and wished she had been dressed in something a little more suitable. Temperatures within the hierarchical cities were regulated by Armagus, so it was obvious that she was far from home.
As if the sudden change of location, change of dress, and appearance of wings weren’t enough, something else was amiss. She was in a forest - an actual forest - and yet there was no sign of seithr anywhere. Normally its reach would be inescapable in such a place, which was why such places were so rarely frequented, as prolonged exposure was deadly. Was it possible for such circumstances to exist? Could there be other places below the hierarchical cities in which seithr was absent? Tsubaki was nothing if not well-read, and she’d read nothing of the sort.
Determined not to let anxiety get the better of her, she set about gathering a few of the larger branches that lay scattered amongst the leaf litter and laid them out to form a distinctive triangle in the middle of the clearing. Satisfied that she’d recognise the spot as her starting point should she happen to find herself accidentally wandering in circles, Tsubaki took a deep breath and set off through the forest.
Step one: return to civilisation. Step two: determine the identity of the party responsible for this inconvenience. Step three: JUDGEMENT…or depending on who they are, perhaps just an ineffectual reprimand.
