First Person: Q&A please!
Third Person: Death the Kid was still feeling sore. While Gopher’s beatings hadn’t really caused him any permanent damage, having an angry, asymmetrical man take out all his frustrations on you was never exactly pleasant. As he was feeling sore, he took a little time getting to his feet; the world was feeling a little hazy, but something was off.
The distinct smell of a forest hit him, and his eyes opened slowly; something was definitely off. This wasn’t the run-down church. It didn’t seem to be the Book of Eibon, but he couldn’t be entirely sure; he knew that different parts of the book felt different, but to create such a vivid illusion seemed unrealistic. Besides, the smell was unmistakable. The book smelled like paper and ink, and-
…Why were his clothes lying on the ground? He couldn’t believe he hadn’t noticed the cotton pants earlier. It was fortunate they were symmetrical, or he may have had a crisis on his hands. Nonetheless, he preferred his own clothing, so he quickly changed into it. With that out of the way, he was free to look around.
He found himself in a circular clearing. For some reason, a very circular clearing. In fact, he was in the exact center. No matter which way he looked, everything was perfect! His face almost literally lit up as he sparkled and laughed, spinning in place and basking in the clearing’s glory. It was a gift from nature itself, a reminder that symmetry was the natural, beautiful state of the world!
And then he noticed it. The sparkles dulled, the blissful smile vanished. A single rock to his left. It was hideous. Disgusting. A grave offense against all that was beautiful in the world. He told himself he needed to remain calm; it was a single stone. Small, easily removed. He would pick it up carefully, throw it out of sight, and the clearing would be truly splendorous. He walked over to the stone, trembling slightly; he couldn’t afford to mess this one up! The world of the clearing was at stake!
He carefully grasped it with two fingers, lifting it from its resting place. Success! He tossed it with all the strength he could muster, sending it flying far, far away from his newly perfect cleari-
…Ah. There hadn’t been any grass underneath the rock. He quickly ran over to check on the other side of the circle, and there was definitely grass growing there. No, that wouldn’t do. He held his arm out, a tape measure materializing in his hand. He carefully measured the position where the rock would have been on the opposite side of the clearing for about an hour; once he finished his initial surveying, he got to work on removing each piece of grass individually and completely. He would accept nothing less than perfection from his clearing!
Whether he would ever discover the village’s existence remained to be seen.
1. What is most important to you? Symmetry. It is both my uncompromisable aesthetic and the ideal I hold for the world. There are few who understand its sacred magnificence as I do, but I won't be swayed from what I know to be true beauty.
2. How do you think others would describe you? As the son of my honorable father. I don't resent the description; it is accurate, and there is only one young shinigami in the world. Ah, unless you mean how a perfect ignorant stranger would describe me? In that case, I suppose they would say... that disgusting piece of trash with those hideous stripes who deserves to die! He's worthless! How could such a repulsive, wretched being ever become a shinigami? He couldn't! Put him out of his misery, unless you can't stand to get near him due to the suffocating stench of failure!
3. What is your greatest fear? I fear the Kishin for its strength, but I know that it can be overcome. It has been defeated in the past, and I trust in the strength that Shibusen holds.
4. If you could change anything about the world, what would it be and why? If I could only select one thing to change, it would be to eliminate the Kishin from existence. As much as I would like to achieve a perfectly symmetrical world, such a glorious picture cannot be painted on a blemished canvas.
5. What goals do you want to accomplish in your life? At the moment, it is my desire to aid Shibusen in eliminating the Kishin. Once I am old enough to do so, I will take over my father's place as the world's shinigami and head of Shibusen, and I will immediately begin my work of creating and maintaining a world of sublime neatness, balance and symmetry.
