Samples

First Person: [She's begun to talk to herself, because she's alone in a forest, and it's cold, and talking is the best way to keep her spirits up.] Death ain't exactly all it's cracked up to be, if that's what this is. Though the wings're a nice color. It don't really make sense, though, because if I'm dead, I shouldn't be this cold, right? Or sore, I feel almost as sore as that time I got shot. So I can't be dead, if I was dead I'd be nice and comfy somewhere.

Still, they wouldn't just leave me here. They'd never do that, and I can't find Serenity. My girl needs me, I hope she's around here somewhere. It's cold. What sorta planet is this?

Third Person: Her face was not one much given to frowns, and anyone who had known her for more than a day would say that Kaylee frowning was a sure sign of real trouble - yet here she was, frowning as though her life depended on it. Maybe it even did.

She moved in a slouchy, gangly kind of way, clearly not accustomed to the sort of dress she now found herself in. She'd be much more comfortable in a set of loose-fitting coveralls and a smear of engine grease on her nose. She was sort of muttering to herself as she walked through the trees, mostly in an attempt to keep herself calm and break the silence around her. Once in a while, she would call out a name - "Cap'n?" "Zoe?" "'Nara?" or "Simon?".

What had happened to her friends? Her ship? Her Serenity? Something awful, something terrible, must've happened for her to be out here, in some strange place, all by her lonesome, with no ship or crew in sight, and a strange pair of wings painfully grafted to her back. Couldn't be reavers, surely, or she'd just be dead, and far as she knew, the Alliance wouldn't do something as stupid as stick a pair of wings on anyone, though who knows what sort of things they'd done to River in that place Simon talked about?

If not reavers, or feds, then who? And if she didn't find someplace warm soon, she wasn't likely to live long enough to find out. "It's cold," she muttered, continuing her search.

The planet was at least terraformed, which meant there'd be people somewhere, she just had to find them. Of course - a river. It was the same on every planet, every moon. People built their towns around a water source. If she followed the river, eventually she would find the people. If she could make it that far.
