I can't speak for all roleplays, but rather Luceti alone... what you need to differentiate is first-person in the traditional style, versus first-person in the roleplaying style, which has, over time, developed its own definition. Your example of first-person is the traditional style; roleplaying differs in that it essentially means a journal or a diary entry. If you were to write in a diary, would you write "I picked up the spoon and ate the ice cream"? Most people would write something more like, "I ate ice cream today." It's first-person, but it's written in the roleplaying style.

We do have action-based posts that appear very often in the entries posted in Luceti, such as the "wrong" example:

[She sat up and looked around; the surroundings were very familiar.] Hello? [Standing up, she took a few steps towards the treeline.]

HOWEVER. In our application samples, we request for journal/diary style ONLY, excluding any action, because we want to see the applicant's ability to write the character entries. Any "actions" in these samples should be character thoughts, or sounds that might be heard over the journal in a voice post. The apper's ability to write actions and full-sentence descriptions is demonstrated in the third-person example.

After they're accepted, they can blend action and journal style as much as they like, but we want to see how well they can read and follow instructions as well.

Hopefully that clears things up for you.

Okay, so... first-person is essentially hearing a recording done over a tape recorder with the addition of thoughts? What is this used for, and how to characters reply to it?

And third-person is essentially what I do, then? I post voice, action, description of surroundings, and thoughts all in one.

Another few questions for you (SORRY!), what gets posted where? And what about those "roleplay logs?"

First-person can be either written or voice-recorded, and other characters can reply in either way as well. It basically works just like Live Journal.

Third-person is usually reserved for logs, which is like two (or more) players getting together and writing a little play-by-play story about what their characters are doing. Basically journal entries (the first-person samples or action comments) are for the specific character journals, and logs (the third-person samples) go in the log community.
