Personality: (Please consider here things such as habits, likes and dislikes, thought patterns, experiences and so on.)
In the beginning of her introduction, Matsuri starts off being a shy and very soft-spoken girl, but now she has become braver and more outspoken under Gaara's tutelage (and probably because of Temari’s influence as well). After the time-skip, she seems to have fewer inhibitions about using weapons, but likely still prefers to use non-lethal ones because she doesn't like to hurt people. Matsuri is very caring and will go to great lengths to help her friends and comrades, such as putting herself in dangerous situations.
She is very polite and respectful to other people, especially those with authority over her, and addresses most people with the “-san” suffix (except for Gaara, in which case she uses “-sama”). When voicing her opinion on a topic, Matsuri doesn’t have very many inhibitions about speaking her mind, but she would back down if the other person exhibited discomfort or unease toward the discussion. This aspect shows her empathy and consideration toward others, even though she can get very emotional on some subjects that she feels passionate about.
Matsuri has an initial shyness around strangers, but her desire to befriend others eventually helps her get over that. She is fiercely protective of the people important to her, and tends to hide her weaknesses due to both inner and outer expectations, but then those attributes usually get found out eventually. Matsuri doesn’t believe in judging people based on their reputations or appearances, and dislikes it when she witnesses others doing that, especially with regards to Suna’s Fifth Kazekage.
She works very hard to be a more-than-adequate ninja, because there are high expectations that come with being Gaara’s student, seeing as he is the strongest ninja in the Sand Village, and she feels like it’s necessary to help Gaara uphold his reputation. She wouldn’t hesitate to stand up for him, such as smacking anyone who utters a single negative phrase. Matsuri treats Gaara with a great deal of respect, and it’s quite apparent that she has romantic feelings for him. Normally, she is very sensible and would think before leaping into any situation, but if it’s an issue that concerns Gaara, then she will likely go in on instinct alone, maybe even disobeying orders from higher authority. Nevertheless, she means well, and always tries very hard to improve herself.
Strengths:
Physical - Taijutsu and usage of the rope dart weapon: used that to save Naruto’s life by stopping an enemy attack. - Speed: reacts very quickly, such as jumping in to save Naruto. Mental - Truthful: told Gaara the reason why she was afraid of weapons. - Hardworking: rose to Chunin level during time-skip. - Quick learner: understood an important lesson taught by her sensei and learned how to fight with the rope dart after a short period of training. - Insightful: was the first non-relative in Suna to accept Gaara and not feel afraid of him, despite his reputation and status. Emotional - Optimistic: believed that Gaara would be rescued and return to the village alive. - Devoted: still loyal to Gaara after over two years.
Weaknesses:
Physical - Heavy things: she fell over trying to pick up a large club. - Clumsy: unsteady on her feet, pre time-skip. Mental - Self-confidence: was easily discouraged by her failures, pre time-skip. - Competitive: raced a girl to reach Gaara first when he was revived. Emotional - Opinionated: showed impatience toward the Konoha shinobi for the amount of time they took to retrieve Gaara. - Impulsive: expressed disagreement at the given orders without taking Temari’s feelings into account.
