[There's the click of a radio being turned on, and a light scratching noise. A pause, and then an odd, quiet laugh.]

"Hm? This isn't-"

[It sounds like Belphegor meant to say more than that, but his voice cuts off, and there are scuffling sounds in the background. After a minute, there's a soft thud, and the sound of footsteps.]

[The scream startles him a little, and Belphegor frowns reflexively, years of working with a certain volume-loving teammate having conditioned him to be irritated by sudden loud noises.]

[Notably, he doesn't correct her on this idea.]

[Belphegor could point out that the most dangerous monsters are the ones that don't attack right away, but he doesn't bother. This girl looks so harmless it's almost boring.]

[Belphegor smiles extra wide, any insincerity completely lost on him. Of course a perfect stranger would acknowledge his princely superiority. He doesn't bother to introduce himself, though.]

"So, what is this place, anyway? Is it punishment for the little game with the Ninth?"

[Not that a girl he just met would know what he's talking about, but that doesn't bother Bel. He's just shown up in a strange place and conveniently run into someone, so clearly she must be there for him, and able to answer his questions.]

This town is called Lucerne Ridge. I don't know how, but it pulls people from different worlds and brings them here. Every other week, monsters roam around town, which is this week, so... that's why I thought you were a monster.

[She looks him over once more, suddenly noticing the emblem on his coat.]

Oh! That emblem! There's another man here who bears that same emblem on his coat...

[This talk about monsters and parallel universes should probably disturb Bel, but it really doesn't. A prince is a prince no matter where he goes, and the rest is just details.]

[He smiles rather unpleasantly, and there's a small, curved knife peeking out from between his fingers.]

Of course not. But unfortunately, he is in the hospital. Apparently he got really sick.

[But actually he broke out last night and is now resting in his apartment.]

"Then take me to him." [There's a map in that tacky little bag he found in the bus station, but he's not going to bother with that when he's got someone to do the work for him.]
