Life sucks

WESTFIELD-Joseph W. Kielbasa, 78, of 46 Cranston Street died Saturday, January 15th 2005 in Noble Hospital. He was born on January 20th 1926 in Westfield to the late John and Tekla (Starzyk) Kielbasa and has been a lifelong resident. Joe was a 1944 graduate of Westfield Trade High School. He was a U.S Army Veteran of WW-2. He was a Westfield Police Officer for 37 years retiring in 1991. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society for over 50 years, he was a church usher, a Marshall, and also ran the Church Pitch League for many years. He operated the family's Dairy Farm for many years and in later years raised beef and grew vegetables. In the 40's he was one of the top amateur baseball players in Western Mass as a third baseman, he played in the Industrial Baseball Leagues into the 50's. Joe was an avid candlepin bowler and an avid Red Sox and New England Patriot fan. He leaves his beloved wife of 52 years , Jane A. (Puza) Kielbasa, his beloved children and grandchildren Joseph W. Kielbasa Jr. and his wife Nancy and grandchildren Jeff and Kevin of Westfield, Mary Jane Smith and her husband Peter and grandchildren Catherine, Sean and Andrew of Westfield, Joanne Smith and her husband
David and grandchildren Emma, Molly and Rachel of Beacon, NY, Sandra Kielbasa of Westfield and Chip Kielbasa and his wife Missy and grandchildren Seth, Tessa and Aaron of Westfield. Joe also leaves three brothers, Matthew Kielbasa of Amsterdam, NY, Stanley Kielbasa of Westfield and Chester Kielbasa of Ludlow; two sisters, Veronica Jez of Westfield and Sister Mary Viventia a Franciscan Sister of St. Joseph of Hamburg, NY. The funeral services for Joe will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. I didn't even get to say goodbye. I haven't seen him since New Years Day, and I was supposed to see him at church on Saturday night, but it was too late, and I didn't get to say goodbye. I'm sorry Grandpa.

And the newspaper got it wrong. He died on the farm, not at the hospital. He was at the farm, with the cows and his garden, doing what he loved.
